Gravel Lane

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I would like to make a gravel lane running here and there through my garden.

But earth, here in Chiang May is like sticky clay, and for other part I do not want herbs comming through the gravel. So I think I must put a "mat" under the gravel...

But what type of mat?

In Europe there is something like felt: gravel cannot sink into earth, herbs cannot grow through, but water, yes, flows through...

Is there this type of mat somewhere here? And where to buy especially in CM?

Or any advices welcome :o

Thanks,

Gobs

I was looking for such a thing myself here in Khon Kaen. Did not find it.

I finnaly compromised on sun shield fabric. It comes in green, blue or black and in differnt sun protecting quality. At least your gravel will not sink into the clay. But I guess weeds will grow through it.

There are also thin black plastic foils for ponds. You may choose the best quality of such foils, perforate it to let water pass, use a layer of sand to avoid clogging of this holes and combine it with sun protection fabric for stability. Then cover it with gravel. This should do it.

Agreed !

used the plastic fabric on several occasions, original installation going back about 5 years. Works very well, double layered just in case. Very seldomly a weed or wild grass may pop through but doesn't cause a problem.

cheers
