I am need of a good, reasonably priced curtain maker / curtain rail supplier in Pattaya Area.

I have used a supplier from Naklua before on a previous house, but found they were rather expensive.

For my new house I want to install the triple rail system - outer rail for pelmet curtain, middle rail for curtain and inner rail for net / voil. The two inner rails to have drawstrings (standard stuff I hear you say !!)

I've looked in the home centres around Pats but only find fahsionable / trendy rail systems, not the bog standard type. I don't know if it's possible to locate the original maufacturer (BKK?) and order by the metre, plus fittings ?

I have some curtains already but will also need new ones made. I vaguely remember from a previous thread, somebody mentioned a maker on Thepprasit but can't recall where.

Places I've checked already seem rather expensive !! (Pattaya Ripoff !)

Surely all it takes is a good seamstress (or male equivalent) and the selected material.

any experience out there ?

any experience out there ?

wife is abroad* and has all the details. we recently had curtains made for our new (exceptionally big home) and got an excellent deal from a shop located at Thepprasit Road. top job, no delays, price total approximately 130,000 baht; other quotes were in the range of 250 to 550,000 baht!

*will try to call wife later (14 hours time difference) and get the phone number for you.

we have not all the windows with "voil" as all our panes are coated (they look like mirrors from outside) but all the curtains have additional "sunblock" to save energy attached. we also did not use the triple system but wallmounted brass rods (without pelmets). i have no idea of the breakdown but to the best of my knowledge the rail system with drawstrings is cheaper than the rods.

i'd like to emphasize again that we are extremely happy with the services rendered and products delivered and there was no need for haggling about the price.

is there a special 'sunblock' curtain fabric designed specifically for energy conservation purposes?...if so, do you have a product name (in english or thai)? I wanna install new curtains on a rail above our sliding upstairs windows that will have an insulating effect as well as totally block sunlight (tutsi resides in an evil, pitch black upstairs lair while downstairs in the sunlight happy thais cavort in sanook abandon...)

We asked for curtains to block the heat, and ended up with a backing layer (detachable with velcro) that reminds me of portable movie screens from back when people did slide shows and home movies. Its texture resembles vinylized canvas and it has a silver color but it does not look like metalized mylar or anything that shiny. My wife doesn't recall any special term for the material but just something like this: ผ้าม่านสะท้อนแสง and she thinks the vendor said people use the same material to make car covers...

It works well enough that you notice, first, how much light leaks around the edges where the curtain folds don't touch the wall, and second, how much heat pours from the ceilings and walls once you cover the windows. :o Maybe you should burrow underground for your lair, and let the fun move upstairs...

all the curtain shops use the expression "sunblock". but there are big differences. check samples looking into the bright sun.

I renovate plenty of condos in Pattaya and I have been to every curtain shop in the city at one time or another. I use Wattanaporn Curtains; there number is 038-225-411. They have by far the largest shop I have found with an exceptional selection of fabrics. Their work and installation have always been excellent. The shop is located in North Pattaya.

had the highest quote for our curtains but came down immediately by >20% when we pointed out that we'll get quotes from competitors too. for you as a frequent customer things might work out different.
