The Thai government has reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption, an issue which it says remains a national priority.

 

Last week, the President of National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Police General Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit told the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) that Thailand remains committed to working to prevent and combat corruption.

 

“Thailand remains committed to working with all Member States and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to prevent and combat corruption and to strengthen international cooperation”, Pol. Gen. Watcharapol said in a statement.

 

The news comes as Thai PM Prayuth Chan-o-cha recently announced a 20 year plan to tackle corruption and promote transparency throughout the government.

 

The PM’s announcement came after Thailand recently fell three places in the annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) carried out by Transparency International.

 

Thailand ranked in 104th place, down three places from the previous year, out of 180 countries surveyed, with an overall score of 36 out of 100.

 

Countries were given a score from zero to 100, with zero being ‘highly corrupt’ and 100 being ‘very clean’.

 

The least corrupt countries were found to be Denmark and New Zealand, which each scored 88 points, followed by Finland and Singapore with 85.

 

Regionally, Vietnam tied with Thailand in 104th place with a score of 36, just behind Indonesia which scored 102. 

 

Elsewhere, Philippines scored 115, Laos 134 and Myanmar 137.

 

According to the index, Cambodia was the most corrupt country in Southeast Asia with a score of 160.

Is this some kind of joke????? Government committed to tackling corruption,????????

The corruption here is worst at the top, then it slowly trickles down.

First thing to do, is rid the country of those at the top, then hopefully the corruption will cease, or at least decrease.

I wonder if the length of time to solve cases where corruption seems to be obviously present decreases the overall score?

 

If so, the length of time now transpired, with no result, with the Boss case should mean Thailand is near the worst score in the world.

 

 

Bravo ! A 20 year plan is a confession that it's not going well at all and that it will need time !

Cant do that because of the owner of the company , thats whats so wrong whit Thailand because you can never discus cases like that or the junta government whit out risk time inn jail.

 

 

The PM's 20 year plan to tackle corruption ? Sounds like he will be around for awhile.... Authoritarians do have the means for longevity. 

The only commitment they have with corruption is covering it up and getting away with it

They're totally on the case, boys, tackling corruption in the Future Forward Party.

By the way: What happened to the first plan to stamp out corruption, which was one of the justifications for Prayuth's coup? Didn't bear any fruit in SEVEN years, did it?

 

Besides, when I read a headline like "Thai government reiterates commitment to tackling corruption" I cannot help myself but conjuring up other wildly fictional headlines such as...

 

"Thieves Guild battles on to stamp out burglaries"

"Pedophile ring speaks out against child abuse"

"Mafia organization vows to expand welfare initiatives"

The first thing that has to be done is to scrap all defamation laws. At the moment anyone accusing someone of corruption they are being sued for defamation. With all the corruption money available there is no way to defend a defamation suit so corruption will always win.

 

It now seems the Yingluck Gov wasn't so bad after all if you look at this junta gov and all its failures and blatant corruption.

 

Rice Scheme:  this gov did the same thing with possibly a bit less middleman corruption

Covid-19:  complete failure

Covid-19 Vaccines:  complete failure

Boss case:  complete failure

Watch case:  complete failure

  . . .

 

You cant solve corruption if you cant talk about it for fear of being prosecuted for defamation. 

Which is how the rich Thais like it. So its not going to change any time soon.

And I thought Thai comedy was pretty bland ! now this livens things up a bit I got a good belly laugh out of this one

Talking of which ...., my country (Australia) recently donated 68 Million baht to Thailand towards their vaccination program.  No benefit whatsoever to Australian expats. We are still at the back of the line. 

And I am skeptical where that money will end up.  Will it all be used as intended by Australian government?  

Few things first have to form a committee then a roadmap have a hub then a sandbox and a power point presentation with everyone pointing then maybe then subtract the 7 previous years of failure from his 20 years commitment that leaves him 13 years totally impossible !

Everyone in the government should be investigated and any unusual, excessive wealth (=corruption money) should be investigated.

Due to work, I travelled a few southeast Asia countries. I preferred Indonesia and Malaysia as they always have an express(paid) and standard(free) ways of doing things. So we could evaluate if it's necessarily going the expressway. It's like a service. Here in Thailand however they had bring it up another level. The standard ways usually doesn't work and the express paid way is usually the standard ways.

It insures current powers that be will be business as usual.  Let the next generation clean them selves up.....

Has anyone  screened the Nerflix series,"El Chapo," and thought ti themselves  how could this actually be a reality,  and then ponder if theres any similarities in governments?

I want to know how Thailand got the 36 points.. Looks like some of the corrupt missed out on lucrative opportunities

Ah, they were at a UN convention.

So that is the reason the scapegoat was hung out to dry for the 80,000 Bht bung.

Some Nic e words which will achieve less than nothing. Does anybody believe these clowns......there is much more corruption in Thailand now than in the Thaksin eras. And the massive borrowing by our current leadership has been wasted producing no discernible economic growth.

This story should come with sound, those oddball "Booinnggg!!!" noises on Thai Telly variety shows, so the audience can tell the difference between a joke and the days official announcements.

Put 'Big Joke' in charge of it and tell him to start at the top.   Some people don't like him but he did a good job with Immigration cutting down on Corrupt Practices and that's why he was so hated by the Staff.   Certain members of Mrs Family work there and had their takings cut down to zero after years of coining it and two new Family Cars every year paid for in cash.  Not to mention Holidays abroad had to be curtailed as well.
