BANGKOK (NNT) - Phuket authorities have elaborated on the rules for fully vaccinated people arriving from overseas, when the province reopens to foreign tourists from Europe and the USA on 1 July.

 

Provincial governor Narong Woonsiew said on Wednesday that visitors will come from low and medium-risk countries in Europe and from the USA. They will arrive on Thai Airways International flights from London, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Paris and Zurich.

 

Before arrival, visitors must have a negative COVID-19 test, arrange COVID-19 insurance coverage of at least 100,000 USD and have a reservation at a hotel with a Safety and Health Administration (SHA) Plus certificate. On arrival, visitors will be tested again for COVID-19 at Phuket airport. They will then have to wait in their hotel room for the result. If negative, they can go out.

 

Mr Narong said visitors will be required to stay on Phuket for at least 14 days, before travelling to other provinces. For the first seven days, they cannot change their hotel. During the second week they can change hotels twice.

 

According to the Phuket governor, the same rules will apply to Thai returnees. Disease screening for people who arrive by land or sea will be the same as for those arriving by air.

The UK is today announcing their new updated travel list and which countries you need to do quarantine when you return to the UK, I suspect Thailand will be moved onto this list, lets see, we'll know in a few hours.

That is two days running now the governor has only mentioned the five Thai airways flights from Europe. Does anybody know any different? I am looking to fly soon from Dubai with Emirates.

he is only looking at the European visitors, not those from the Middle East (Qatar, Emirates, El Al and Singapore are the other airlines)

Also again no mention of the tracking device, in the UK on Sky they were talking about an APP for a phone, but you can forget your phone in the hotel room, a tracking device can be seen by everyone, so they know who and what you are, also you can turn the WIFI or Mobile Data off on a phone....

the Thai flights might run into issues if the UK adds Thailand to the Red List.

Then the European People could decide to place Thailand on their Red list (each Country then can decide if they follow suit), then that only leaves flights from Qatar, Singapore, Emirates and El Al (maybe Etihad as well). Could be another disaster raising its head.

The more I'm reading, the more I think only a masochist will enjoy that convoluted mess. With all the testing and tracking, it's pretty much impossible to have a relaxed holiday.

Struggling to pull a positive out of that .. 

 

As for the headline about making rules for foreigners visiting , farangs response was 

 

" I am declining the opportunity to avail myself of a holiday in Phuket this year and quite likely for the foreseeable future on account of the utter dogs breakfast the people supposed to be running the place have made in dealing with covid with their endless broken promises , porkie pies and breathtaking buffoonery ..

Thailand is already on the amber list, do you mean they may move to the red list ?

 

Am wondering what kind of person  would even consider going to that sandbox under such conditions?

Agree agree agree for tourists yes, but I live there and want to get home, hopefully without doing ASQ again ????????

Has it not occurred to the Phuket authorities, that western countries also set their own rules for their own people wishing to travel abroad for a holiday?

did they miss the news about USA not recommend coming to Thailand? This means it will not be really hard to get a travel insurance in US

People who live in Thailand and need to come back, and whose only other choice is 14 day confinement in a single hotel room. For them, it makes sense (though these new rules limiting flights, if true, will greatly curtail their numbers).

 

Makes no sense at all for other than returning expats.

The conditions i saw only stated tourists. They are now mentioning thais.

Perhaps they are going to have to change from just tourists so that they can get some people to come.

Thai on amber already, so have to do 10 day home quarantine anyway. Only move could be to hotel quarantine.

I just got confirmation from Emirates airline for my flight form DXB to HKT with a list of "things to do" before travel. Quite a list as you know ????!!. Below is the list of low and medium risk countries from where travel for vaccinated tourists / returnees is allowed. It is only in Thai, updated daily and it is the left and centre columns for anybody interested.

I wouldn't be at all surprised that alot of returning Thais will now come via Phuket as the State Funded Quarantine is ending for them July 1st. Better to enjoy the relative freedom in Phuket than being in a hotel room for 2 weeks if you have to pay for either.

Less fantastic than fantastical.

As we have seen the normal daily cases in a wave do not hover around the 3000 mark as does in Thailand. I suspect the powers that be are manipulating the figures, coupled with lack of testing to try and ensure that Thailand doesn’t get put on other countries red-list.

Yes !

But a Thai who has been fully vaccinated only probably has had One shot of Sinovac.

This of course , will only give them about  3 % Immunity against Covid.

Interestingly, Thailand itself is on the "high risk" list (right hand column)...
