People who live in Thailand and need to come back, and whose only other choice is 14 day confinement in a single hotel room. For them, it makes sense (though these new rules limiting flights, if true, will greatly curtail their numbers).

Makes no sense at all for other than returning expats.

Yeah soon as they realize that it just brings some bunch of undesirable expats TAT probably comes up with a new and better plan.  ????????????

Interestingly, Thailand itself is on the "high risk" list (right hand column)...

That made me smile and I could only wickedly guess that that is how Thailand classifies itself ????????

The more I'm reading, the more I think only a masochist will enjoy that convoluted mess. With all the testing and tracking, it's pretty much impossible to have a relaxed holiday.

This is how desperate I 'am to get home ????

Does anyone know if the dreaded Certificate Of Entry will still be required? I've not seen it mentioned in the recent Phuket requirements guff. It would be nice if one less hurdle were removed.

Yes, COE still need it.

But Thai consulates are not yet issuing COE for Phuket sandbox.

"visitors will come from low and medium-risk countries in Europe and from the USA. They will arrive on Thai Airways International flights from London, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Paris and Zurich".

Thai Airways is not flying to USA.

Does he really expect that Americans will go to Europe just to flight to Thailand from there?

There is direct flight from Spain to Phuket. Do I need to go to Frankfurt just to go to Phuket from there in a double priced Thai Airways airplane?

Can you hire a car to go to your hotel or do you have to use expensive hotel transfer?

l doubt you will be able to hire a car to get to the hotel (assuming you mean self drive) but this seems to reference the transfer.

On arrival, visitors will be tested again for COVID-19 at Phuket airport. They will then have to wait in their hotel room for the result. If negative, they can go out.

Test result promised in 14 days...

Yes, of course I'm kidding.  (Or am I?)

he is only looking at the European visitors, not those from the Middle East (Qatar, Emirates, El Al and Singapore are the other airlines)

A lot of the middle east airlines run through hub airports, for example Qatar and Emirates which carry a lot of visitors from Europe and USA. I've never flown direct but often use Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Manama. There have been many statements and stories mentioning varying numbers of airlines flying into Phuket in July and later.

Here's a question...

I don't object to the requirement for Covid insurance, but will the premiums reflect the 99% reduction on the risk that a vaccinated person will require any hospital treatment?  And will the policy pay anything at all if I'm asymptomatic and only get locked up in quarantine?  Or would I be paying full price for a policy that offers me virtually nothing?

Add a clause for trip interruption in case of a positive test and it may be worth something.  Otherwise, it's money 'fer nothing...  (but no chicks for free)

Great but if I remember correctly the UAE and Qatar are on the Red List for the UK!!! So those travelling through a Red list country will probably be looking at a hotel booking in the UK when going home

I'm not sure about those although you're probably correct.  My recent trips have been through Bahrain which I think might be red list which would affect tourists but might have changed by the time I come back to the UK and the same may well apply to UAE and Qatar. Gulf Air aren't flying into Phuket anyway at the moment so unless that changes or I can use them to fly to some nearby safe country I'll need a plan B.

Mr Narong said visitors will be required to stay on Phuket for at least 14 days, before travelling to other provinces. For the first seven days, they cannot change their hotel. During the second week they can change hotels twice.

Before arrival, visitors must have a negative COVID-19 test, arrange COVID-19 insurance coverage of at least 100,000 USD and have a reservation at a hotel with a Safety and Health Administration (SHA)

No way !
