Cambodia has nominated Battambang city of Batambang province as a gastronomy creative city in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). In a letter to the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and Provincial hall of Battambang province, the nomination was made according to an agreement made by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

“The Office of the Council of Ministers is pleased to inform that the Royal Government of Cambodia agreed to nominate Battambang city as a member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network on the Gastronomy creative city category,” read the statement. The deadline for 2021 nominations to UNESCO is by June 30.

Together with its 246 member cities from over 80 countries, the UCCN aims to fulfil the enabling and transformative power of culture and creativity in building cities that are resilient, sustainable and future-proof, thus supporting the implementation of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level.
