The "Songkran Variant" rearing its ugly head again?? For reference, the latest news from Cambodia (28 June 2021);-

"After the frightening spread of the Covid-19 virus in Thailand, construction workers’ camps throughout Bangkok were forced to close. This caused about 200 Cambodian workers to leave and return to Cambodia.

The immigration official said that the number of Cambodians returning home has risen sharply after the closure of construction sites in Bangkok.

Marvelous bit of thinking there.  Lets not keep  the covid restricted to a few construction sites around Bangkok, but shut them down and look the other way while the possibly infected can spread to every province in Thailand.

Roadblocks, if anything like they are up my way, will be set up for sure but the only movement will be the guys down the back sharing a bottle of Lao Khao, having a BBQ and playing with their phones while people drive freely by.

A market is required for all that vaccine when it starts to roll out eventually. Sowing the seeds now makes sound financial sense. ????

This is really dreadful, beyond words.

Songkran redux, with the Delta variant floating around somewhere ...

And hardly anyone vaccinated.

Exactly!! You don't say we shut down 1 day or 2 days time you say we are shut down now!! Another Songkran fluster cuck!!! ????????????????

Very typical of Prayuth and Anutin. One step forward, three steps backward.

Prior to announcing the construction sites clusters will be closed, would it not have made sense to have had a plan in place, to deal with the workers, test them, and determine how many needed to be quarantined?

What kind of defective, intellectually incapacitated leadership makes a plan like this due to Covid infections, and then makes no provisions to lock down the sites long enough to determine who is infected? And then allow thousands of super spreaders to exit Bangkok, and travel throughout the nation?

Are they deliberately trying to sabotage any chances of recovery? Or, are they really and truly this inept, and this unable to lead, effectively? If the latter is true, Prayuth and Anutin are the two most dangerous people in Thailand right now.

And what did the police do?

Stand there playing games on their phones.

Would have been a great chance to give them a jab.

Or a test.

Positive stay in the camps

Another toothless Tiger...

That should seed the virus nicely throughout Isaan and the other provinces. Great move to fan the fire.

It's actually a master move. With people fleeing Bangkok and taking virus with them, the pressure on health services in Bangkok will ease somewhat. I'd personally rather see them lock the thing down and then announce it, instead of announcing it a few days upfront, allowing all the horses to bolt before closing the barn door, so to speak. But, it's not all black and white, and doing it this way still has some advantages. Obviously not for the folks that live in Isaan villages... But even there... those who survive won't need a vaccine for next 6 months or so, leaving more for the spots that are reopening to tourists. OK, so this isn't even beneficial to Isaan folks either...

I'm worried about the migrant farm labor camps all over the country. There's a large camp just down the road from me, and the sugar cane harvest is going to kick into gear in just a few months.

This will be looked back upon as one of those key events that Thailand screwed up on. Probably quite a big list thinking about it

probably easier to list the things they have done right..... it will involve allot less paper and ink

The government locked down too late, the exodus must have spread the virus to other provinces by now.

Expect a national lockdown in about 10 days time.

Stock up on beer. Subscribe to netflix and try not to get cabin fever.

Cleaned out the shelf at my local BigC of my favorite:  Riceberry Lager—Cheers!

The accelerated ineptitude is scary, might have been better to give those who wished to return home a free ride to the border/home of their choice and conducted an orderly covid safe exodus but no they want to show how to instil panic in the community.

The darlings of the yellow shirts who shut down Bangkok to facilitate this lot grabbing power.

If there is any truth about the Corona-mania on those sites, then the government took the perfect steps to distribute the virus nicely all over those places the workers have to return to now.
There is no way they can stay and wait out the close-down period so - off they go and infect their loved ones back in the sticks of rural Thailand ......... well done !

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. I mean, what else can one expect in a country where cronyism is rampant. This is the result of having loads of people in positions of power that are so utterly incompetent it beggars belief. Look at what happened in the US. At least there the voters sent the whole sorry bunch packing. That is unfortunately not really an option here.

Just like Songkran the central government is - again!!! - going to allow the spread of Covid from Dark-Red hotspots in the capital and surrounding provinces and explicitly "allow" potentially infected people to travel nationwide spreading the virus as they go.

I said during Songkran and I'll say it again: It is almost as though the central and provincial governments want the virus to spread.  When it happens they can then again wield dictatorial control as well as anointing which businesses will succeed and which will be doomed to "failure by decree."  That's a heck of a deal for clearing out the competition if you are an anointed business, like businesses in malls and hyper-marts, which seem to be sacrosanct. Yeah, one more government induced national lockdown or regional lockdown will bury the rest of the small and medium sized businesses that are now floundering.

What should the central government do?  Close the da*m Red-zones and don't permit inter-provincial travel until the Red-zones are under control again.  Watch what happens though.  Any bets?

The same as Bojo in London announcing they would stop flights from India to UK in another 5 days, allowing thousands to fly into UK with the Indian variant...

Also sounds like when in early 2020, the PRC banned all intra-China travel, but allowed their infected citizens to travel internationally, particularly to Italy and the USA. And the PRC knew exactly what the consequences would be. Now THAT is a key part of the REAL "rest of the story".

History always repeats itself ...

... and in LoS it’s a really fast roundabout ????

Remember last year,

when the smart Bangkok Governor was the one starting all these lockdowns ?

... and the exodus back to the rice fields of the family?

Their camps are made off some corrugated metal houses without any air con, not much food, they were asked to stay in the camp for one month… oven like conditions with nothing to do.  Why their employers are not using army tents instead with portable aircon units so their conditions become more humane?  Where are the promised vaccines for all?

I think this should not only be done for now, during pandemic, and not only in this country, but the workers should be guaranteed a far more decent accommodation rather than where they live now. And as we know companies watch every penny, so this won't happen without becoming a law and being repeatedly inspected. But will any of this happen? With who influences most governments around the World.... nah...
