Dubai/Abu Dhabi for a Visa Run

Featured Replies

Hi. Has anyone done a visa run - for Thai visas - in the UAE? Perhaps this thread can capture our collective info.

I've not done a Thai-visa run there myself. But it may be an attractive option for some. I have been there on business on numerous occasions, have friends who live there, and know a number of guys that have sponsored Thai/Phili/Cambo girlfriends to live with them there. So, I'll offer up what I know. If anyone's actually done a Thai visa in the UAE, it would be great to get the facts.

Overview of Location

  • Flights to Abu Dhabi (the capital) on Etihad or Gulf Air - can be about B15k-B22k round trip
  • Flights to Dubai (the fun) on Emirates - cost the same
  • Hotels - range from the fabulous and expensive beach fronts to the very cheap; the latter only several blocks back from the beach
  • COL - cost of living/staying can be quite cheap; food, especially, can be found in the B50 range, for middle-eastern and sub-continent cuisines; western restaurants more
  • Money - 1UAE dirham = approx 10 thai Baht
  • PPP - a schwarma might run 2-4 dirham from a local restaurant, a beer 5 dirham (but 10-15 in a pub), taxi's start at about 2.5 dirham, I think. Dubai is substantially more expensive, and is about 1 hour away from Abu Dhabi (200+ dirham by taxi).
  • Caution - the Emirates can be grossly expensive, especially a night out in the hotels/expat-focused locales. Budget travelers certainly have better options. However, a budget trip can be made with relatively little effort and creativity (and mostly restraint). For those hungering for a change, not a bad option.
  • Top Activity Recommendations - 4WD dune-busting in the Emty Quarter (a must);

Visa Info

Unforunately, I have no experience getting a Thai visa of any kind in the UAE. Perhaps others can fill in.

Best regards.....

I think you are confusing two matters here.

1. The Visa Run, to activate a new entry on a double or multi-entry visa

2. Applying for a new Thai visa

You paint an interesting picture of the UAE for the first option.

I hope others will chip in and tell us whether the second is possible.

In the meantime I have amended the title of the thread to clarify matters.
