No Moderna Vaccine Contract Received

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) – The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) never received for scrutiny any draft contract for the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Moderna , said Prayuth Petchkhun, OAG’s deputy spokesman.

OAG denied the report that the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) could not sign a contract for the procurement of the Modern vaccine because OAG had not finished scrutinizing the contract though having received it months ago.

OAG said that GPO had asked it to check a contract for the acquisition of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Sinovac and the National Vaccine Institute and the Department of Disease Control had asked it to examine a contract for the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccine by AstraZeneca.

The hub of no responsibility strikes again. I thought Prayut was the COVID Czar (self-anointed). Why is this an issue given his vast skillset?

Sometimes I wonder why this country still exists... There must be some cosmic order in this chaos...

thankfully, my job offered me the AZ shot last Wed and I took it, anticipating just this type of cluck-up in getting the moderna doses before next year.

but it makes me wonder, given all the problems with covid cases and vaccine shortages, and talk about getting moderna doses here, how could the people in these departments not be pressing each other for updated info and required signed forms ASAP.

It almost seems like they just dont want any vaccines produced outside of thailand/china, despite to cost in thai lives

From the very beginning, they've put their trust in rubbish like temperature checks at 7/11, Thai Chana app, mandatory mask in cars etc etc, and it looks like they're still stuck in that fantasy world.

This is quite staggering.......is this the same vaccine non-order for which people have just paid?

This afternoon the Mrs was watching a news program that was covering this story.  The newscaster seemed very angry about this.  I've never seen that sort of tone on any Thai news program before.

I don't think this is negligence or incompetence. At this point I think it's reasonable to say that the Thai government absolutely does not want vaccines from America in Thailand.

well they made it over 6000 infections for the first time.

they shafted every one in the country so they could immunize the people in Phuket.

so now they have no vaccine for  the rest of the country.

what are they going to say when the infection rate goes over 10,000 a day and many more deaths.

now more excuses on why we can not get vaccine!!

i am 73 and hoping i can get vaccinated before i get the infection and die from covid-19 and all the varients.

just sitting here with a stick inserted and waiting.

Clearly the brown envelope hasn't been padded enough. Way too many people profiteering from the current situation. Hardly surprising given that Thailand is one of the most corrupt countries in the world...

Let's kill some more people, especially those that don't want to use substandard vaccine.

The news at 6 on Channel 32 said that Anutin was sure the contract was signed and Moderna would be here in the 4th Qtr or 1st quarter of next year he promised.  Someone's been telling porkies.

I wonder if there is a Thai word for proactivity. You just do not wait months only to say that you did not receive an inquiry if the subject is that straightforward. Why not ask "And where is the contract for Moderna" ?

Your body has seen you through so far.

Why take a chance with an experimental vaccine?

Sure you'll be OK Rod.

What is more and more amazing is the stoizism with which this is all tolerated by the Thai citizens. I can only imagine what would happen in France or Germany but maybe I am totally wrong.

I think not wrong.

They are not imbeciles.  They know exactly what they are doing.  Placating the public with promises of vaccines to come, while all the time working with the Chinese to make sure that the only vaccine with any supply comes from them.  The only thing I am unsure of is whether the reason for this is extortion or bribery.

I registered a month ago or so and I am today being asked to pay (pre-pay, Thonburi Healthcare Group, THG), is this that batch or is this a new batch of vaccines?

Very confusing as I read news yesterday about the gov't (?) ordering Moderna and an identical number of vaccines to what was already "ordered" months ago. Is this the same or whats going on?

Anutin says many things, but, being a politician, you need to take everything he says with a ton of salt...

A friend of mine got into awful trouble with that some years ago. He was a driver on the Southern route from Reading to Waterloo. They used to have a job which involved taking a four car set to Ascot, pulling on to the back of another 4 car set waiting in the platform, shunter would couple them up, and the driver would make his way to the front cab, guard would carry out a brake test from the rear, ding-ding and off to Waterloo.

John, one day, walked up the platform to the front cab in his BR drivers outfit, with dark glasses and a white stick...

Management and the Union Rep were waiting for him at Waterloo. Two weeks suspension without pay followed by a month of moving sets around the carriage sidings at night at Reading.

Another Thai media source report from today (via Google Translate) still says the contract won't be signed until early August:

"The draft supply agreement has been submitted to the Attorney General. On this afternoon (July 2, 2021), after that, a Supply Agreement with Zullik Company will be signed as scheduled in early August 2021. "

With all the conflicting reports and claims flying about regarding the status of the Moderna vaccines, it's pretty hard to have any clear clue of what's going on.

My Mrs was trying to explain the push for the China muck as the 7/11 owners have a big steak holding in Sinovac apparently ????????

Amazing Thailand indeed.

The most amazing thing is, why the Thai people put up with this bunch of imbeciles.

No. The EU manufactures both vaccines so it is not true Thailand does not "want" America product.

I believe it is because Thailand cannot get.

As I write many times before, countries make their order 12 months+ ago and these companies are only now fulfilling these orders. Thailand is  at back of the line. Also, countries in COVAX system are prioritized since the vaccines in large part are being subsidised by USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Japan. Thailand  refused to join Covax.

Pfizer, Astra Zeneca and Moderna are regulated in USA, UK and EU and subject to strict anti corruption regulations. Vaccines manufactured in other countries including versions of Oxford vaccine are not subject to same regulations.

Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG) actually phoned the CEO of Moderna, and Moderna is waiting for a signed contract from Thailand, which as at July 2, 2021 has not been received.

Certainly think wing and a Prayut Con o Con would have employment opportunities in Nigeria, should the peasants here become so revolting he is finally ousted.

Why do the people of Thailand put up with this government for handling the virus vaccine?

Why aren't the Thai people demanding the best available vaccines without further delay?

Why do the Thai people sit idle while thousands of their friends, family and neighbours die or get infected?
