BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) – The cabinet approved the procurement of 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer in October or the fourth quarter, said government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri.

The Cabinet also approved the procurement of additional 10.9 million doses of Sinovac vaccine with the budget of 6.1 billion baht.

In its meeting today, the cabinet also endorsed a 2.52-billion-baht project to help employers and workers covered by Section 33 of the Social Security Act, who were affected by the maximum and strict COVID-19 control measures that the government imposed.

Every day is a new announcement on "Cabinet approves" procuring vaccines from various sources.

Indonesia will be getting all the spare vaccine donations now, so best you get a hurry on and stop "approving" and actually "getting".

Charter some them Thai planes they aren't using and go get the stuff...

Don't we wish things moved quickly.

Sinopharm gazetted, FDA approved and ordered in a day. Delivered in ~ 11 days.

Sinovac 10+ MM doses ordered and delivered in weeks, FDA approved while first delivery sat on tarmac at DMK.

Things can move quickly here with the proper lubricants, and "power".

69.5 MIL. inhabitants. 20 MIL. doses. Math never was my strong point. What am I missing here?

About 1/3rd of populace can have 1 jab, but after the selected few have been given priority i doubt if anybody will see anything, they will probably be sold on for a profit, don't poo phew me you know how it works.

From my experience, when things move quickly it's for something I don't want.  Only Chinese vaccines quickly ordered.  Condo swimming pools quickly closed.  Intervac site quickly shut down.  Hospital vaccine signups quickly filled.  Monthly AZ vaccine production quickly exhausted.  Quick crackdown on protestors...

This would be news when the procur 90 million doses.

Never enough to make a difference.  As long as there is unvaccinated people theres a place for the virus to mutate.

After the report of the leaked document about the low effectiveness of Sinovac the idiots go and buy 10.1 million more doses.

Its like those people who keep buying the overpriced 98,000 baht lightposts.

The corruption never stops.

Australia will not get any Pfizer vaccine until at least October, so Thailand has got no chance of seeing any before that if they order it now.

Well, kids don't need it and, by the time it gets here, a lot of older people will have died already.  Maybe the math works.  ????

I keep thinking how bad the situation  is in Thailand---and it is.

But Its also so annoying that -what I use to class as my country -- Oz with only a small Population, is  over 2 million doses behind Thailand.

Oz--Doses given    8.26 M

Fully Vaccinated    1.88 M

Thailand--Doses given  10.8M

Fully Vaccinated - 2.97 M

That'll be timely for those getting infected now.

If private hospitals in Thailand can secure a pathway for Moderna to get into Thailand, why can't the Thai government do likewise and also order Moderna?

Absolute numbers are irrelevant.

% of population vaccinated is the key metric.

Meh. Stated goal is 100 MM doses in 50 MM people (70 % said by the regime to be herdy) by 31 Dec 2021. That's a pretty absolute number.

Current run rate ~ 1.6 MM doses per week, so another 56 weeks to the stated goal. We're at ~ 6% of the stated goal.

You failed to grasp the context.

It was comparing Australia to Thailand using vaccines given, ignoring population and % vaccinated.

Your post is even more irrelevant.

Meh.
