Pattaya Mayor says city still plans to open to foreign vaccinated tourists by September 1st, developing final plans

The Pattaya City Mayor, Sonthaya Khunplume, met with his deputy mayors and relevant tourism and business owners and agencies in Pattaya today, July 7th, to discuss the reopening of the city to foreign vaccinated tourists without a strict fourteen-day quarantine, like Phuket and soon to be Surat Thani.

According to the Pattaya City Mayor, the city plans to open in September to foreign vaccinated tourists in a program similar to the Samui Plus program.  They have also explored the possibility of utilizing Koh Larn, where the majority of the population is vaccinated, like a Sandbox, although it is unknown if this will be part of the final plan. Regardless, the plan is to utilize the island as part of the program in some manner, even if it is for approved “sealed route” trips as part of the tourism plan. You can read a bit about that proposal here.

The Mayor stated that the plan was still contingent on getting 70% of Pattaya vaccinated with at least a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, which critics continually have stated online that they believe is unlikely based on the current state of vaccination in Pattaya.  The Mayor, however, has stated multiple times that vaccines, including ones privately ordered by Pattaya City, would be available “soon” without giving a specific date, and that the city has the logistics, staff, and infrastructure to roll out vaccines quickly. The latter portion, at least, even some of the staunchest critics agree with online, it is the supply that is the issue.

They did not install all that hi-tech, stuff Like gates, facial scan, thermal scan, and now security officers on Bali-Hi pier for no reason....They have big plans for Koh Larn..

And to think alls you needed to do before was pay 30 baht and get on the boat....

Instead of saying something in these times, i think we can better let them dream. because their minds don't get it.

Meanwhile, in the first batch of "fully vaccinated" tourists to arrive in Phuket, one person tested positive on arrival. Meaning he (or she) was infected long before they got on the plane. Now they are testing the others that arrived on the same flight.

But of course that would never happen with any tourists arriving in Pattaya ! Nothing but top quality, honest chaps that just want to sit in a bar and have a quiet beer and maybe a cheap Thai meal afterwards !

Nothing to worry about. Move along !

Guys been smoking Anutins private stash of Kush it would seem.

Pattaya always managed to get through storms somehow. I am unsure how Pattaya mayor plans to open up Pattaya only but have a feeling it will one way or another.

It will be super interesting though how it will happen if country goes into a lockdown and cases still rising

one dose - useless

Chinese vaccine - useless

This guy has lost it

Even the Mayor of Pattaya is deluded, must have caught it from Government ministers,  you haven't got a prayer for opening up safely by the 1st September,.... Oh he probably meant by 1st September 2023....

Good if it means procuring quality vaccines in that timeframe. Also they need to factor the amount of workers that may return if they do reopen

look, I've been away from the wife and family for 16 months, if they just abandoned all tourism and travel this year, vaccinated everyone they could and opened 100% in January for just flashing your vaccination card, I could live with it. As it is it's impossible for anyone to plan anything.

If Pattaya has a Covid surge, it's not going to come from VTT's (vaccinated, tested tourists) who are arriving in Phuket at and testing positive at a rate of 1/2000.  It's going to come from local Thais, testing positive at a rate of up to 20%.

70% vaccination rate is great if it prevents them from passing Covid around among each other.  But it's totally unnecessary to accommodate VTT's.   Even if they have a few breakthrough cases, they're still by far the safest people to host in your hotel or restaurant.  By a factor of 100.  Plus, they have tourist money burning a hole in their pockets.

They will have to solve the problem of the virus screaming in with the Thai and migrant workers from red zones.  But that's already happening as they all escape BKK.  Without the benefit of tourist $$$.

If they dont completely lockdown for 1 month and mass vacinate, deaths will be in the hundreds by sept.

Was planning return to pattaya in oct but with nothing open and so many have left town and more covid problems think it will 2022,

I left pattaya in may 2021 was only a shadow of its self the bit that was open shut the rest was abandoned and in disrepair inc walking st.

Dont fancy staying in koh larn ok for day trip and with monsoon LOL

So its going to be Covid vs. Pattaya.

So its going to be the Battle of Pattaya.

Kind of reminds of the Battle of Trafalgar

Chernobyl?

Give it up mate..... spend your time doing something useful. How about a way to keep Bangkokians out of town at weekends?

Open September.  But moderna vaccine planned to arrive in October.

This does not add up.

Another disaster waiting to happen.

Before developing 'final plans' get to work on the first plan of getting everyone fully vaccinated.  A vague 'soon' doesn't cut it.

Agreed, and how can the Mayor quote 70% locals to be vaccinated before September when they have no vaccine.?????? and there is no word of any arriving. This country is living on pipe dreams.

Sorry Mr Mayor, but without the local population of Pattaya getting to 70% vaccinated, there's no way it's safe for foreigners to come here. And they won't come if it's still dangerous here. BTW, farangs are part of the local population and none of those people will take the Chinese vaccine. I'd recommend locking down the city, vaccinating as many locals, and after a month on from their second shot, consider opening Pattaya.

A pipe dream for sure, but unclear what's in the pipe.

I wonder how they will control the border(s) to Pattaya...????
