Is Thailand Blocking Blogs Too?

Featured Replies

Hello all

This Censorship blows

I was on another forum (cnet.com) suggesting a topic for the Real Deal podcast.

The suggestion was to do a show on how to transfer big files across the internet when e-mail won't do.

The exchange can be seen her (good info video too) Cnet.com Real Deal Forum

Anyhow some one gave a link to go to http://mashable.com/2007/05/23/7-ways-to-s...ger-than-gmail/

where there was an article on this 'sending big files'

I tried to go to the link and got blocked. I hacked off everything at the end and tried just the web site...blocked.

I get "( Sorry! the web site you are accessing has been blocked by ministry of information and communication technology )" ALL SEEING ALL KNOWING CRAPTASTIC TAP DANCING "EYE" KNOW BETTER THAN YOU GREEN SCREEN OF FRUSTRATION.

sorry for shouting just had to vent.

Grrrrrr this gets my goat.

Can any one tell me what mashable.com is? Is it just a blog? Does it have anything racy that could be misconstrued as porn? Is it political? Since I can't see the site I don't know why it's being blocked.

Mashable.com is a review of all the social networking sites, including YouTube. Covering the YouTube block in Thailand they also hosted the criticized videos on their own site, also getting blocked in Thailand themselves.

There is no list per se, though there are a few versions floating around on the net. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that blocking is also run by the ISP itself, so, for example, a couple of ISPs decided to block blogspot because of 'advice' from the ministry.

The self-censorship mindset which has existed here for so long makes this 'nod and wink' approach all the easier to implement.

Regards
