snoop1130
Photo from Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives At least nine banteng, or Bali Cattle in Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary in Thailand’s Uthai Thani province are thought to be infected with Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and a team of veterinarians has been sent to investigate, according to Mr. Sompong Thongseekhem, director of the Office of Wildlife Conservation, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation. Mr. Sompong said that camera traps, installed in the Huay Tap Salao-Huay Rabum no-hunting zone, about ten kilometres from the sanctuary, have captured images of at least nine banteng, with multiple nodules on their skin, thought to be symptoms of LSD. Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an infectious disease in cattle, caused by a virus of the Poxviridae family. The disease is characterized by fever, enlarged superficial lymph nodes, multiple nodules on the skin and mucous membranes. The infected cattle may also develop edematous swelling in their limbs and exhibit lameness. unblocktheplanet
(Okay, no LSD jokes today!) I believe this is the same disease that infected people during the Covid disaster up to now.
Outbackoz
One would hope that the government gets ahead of this vector borne problem and supports the local livestock industry with the necessary vaccines before it spreads and becomes a major blame game issue. This is like the COVID issue, the Thai DLD ,Department of livestock got in 60 000doses of vaccine from abroad ,a couple of months ago ,as far as I know no more since ,Thailand has a few million heads of cattle and buffalo, talk of Thailand producing its own vaccine. Controlling the insect vector not easy ,it can be a seasonal thing ,mainly in the rainy season ,when they are a lot of insects ,mosquitos, gnats, and Thai horse flies have been said to be a problem.
