BANGKOK (NNT) - As Myanmar’s daily case numbers spike, Thailand’s defense authorities have ordered security officers including policemen, soldiers, and local officers to reinforce the border to prevent any illegal crossings.

The Ministry of Defence’s spokesperson, Lieutenant General Kongcheep Tantrawanit revealed that since July last year. Thailand’s security authorities have arrested as many as 44,168 illegal crossers comprising 33,576 along the border and 10,592 in Thailand’s territory.

In July 2021 alone, over 4,300 illegal crossers were arrested.

In response to the current state of Myanmar’s economy, internal conflict, and rising Covid-19 cases, Thailand must keep a careful watch on the 2,401 kilometer-long border between the two countries.

Forces have been deployed to guard both land and sea borders.

Meanwhile, in the east, patrol forces are having to be more cautious as illegal crossers from Laos and Cambodia have recently been spotted more frequently.

"Border security reinforced (again) to prevent illegal crossings (again)"

It appears that Thailand's border security is as temporary as it is porous, since there are articles about its reinforcement on a monthly basis. So the question is: Can they simply not fix it permanently, or is this just too good a news opportunity showing how they are valiantly scrambling to do something every month?

1. There's an odd paradox in all this: keeping out aliens (and returning Thais) who bypass quarantine - and an apparent huge need for (low-pay and work-ready) aliens to man the country's factorys, food processing and construction.

2. Apart from border patrols, and if they were serious, there ought to be huge criminal penaltys for harbouring, employing or housing illegal entrants ... it seems that once they get in, they're left alone.

Not only the border with Burma, but also with Cambodia. I must congratulate the Thais on preventing their OWN citizens trying to cross illegally into Cambodia possibly bringing more Delta Variant infections into the Royal Kingdom!

Not sealing off the border with Burma, with the use of the 550,000 soldiers who are supposed to protect the nation, (and likely do next to nothing daily) and allowing corrupt border officials to continue working their franchises, is and was a crime against humanity. And for them to now pretend that they are all of a sudden taking this "disease leak" seriously, should also be regarded as a crime. Especially since they have warned against disseminating fake news.

What about their own fake news, like this one? Imagine if a citizen's arrest were a real thing here?

Thousands of undocumented, untested and unvaccinated people slipping across the border on a regular bases – and they wonder where all of the Covid infection has come from.

While they refuse to let fully documented, tested and vaccinated foreigners who would spend money enter Thailand with out jumping through all of the hoops.

They really have lost the plot.

The Cambodian Authorities have also called upon Thailand to tighten their porous Border to prevent Thais from crossing Illegally.
