Ban on all public gatherings that could result in spread of Covid-19 - RTP stock up on tear gas helmets

Picture Daily News

The government gazette announced a ban, effective immediately, on all public gatherings that could result in the spread of Covid-19.

The sweeping powers are a step up on previous declarations and will be seen by many as a means to help the government legitimize their crackdown on dissent, notes ASEAN NOW.

Daily News said that the ban is nationwide and would result in jail terms of 2 years and/or 40,000 baht fines for violators.

Anti-government protests were held at the weekend and there were reports of tear gas and rubber bullets being fired in Bangkok.

The wording of the order gave some leeway for certain activities given permission to continue.

Meanwhile Daily News also reported that the Royal Thai Police were spending 137 million baht more on riot equipment.

They reported this along with a picture of the massed ranks of anti- riot clad police on a road and the headline: "You mean you don't have enough already?"

The RTP plan to spend 129,580,000 baht on 6,820 tear gas helmets.

Plus 8,052,000 baht on 660 sets megaphones and sound amplification equipment.

They have already announced a deal to buy five anti-riot assistance vehicles for 87.8 million baht, added the media.

Money well spent boys.... How many vaccines can you buy with that? Just asking...

  • Or financial relief for those with their livelihoods taken away.

  • The last gasp of a dying broken regime. I doubt many in LOS will miss them. 7 years of Prayut hasn't brought Thailand any happiness or joy - or economic improvement.

A nice little earner for the people allocating the budget.

Sad.

Very true, or even free meals for the millions struggling.

Maybe, just maybe... If they did allocate ALL the non essential budgets to buying any vaccines from around the world ASAP with concrete results, people would stop protesting... And then these anti-riot equipment would be rendered useless. A matter of perspective I guess...

It will all be loaded into a couple of Pick-up Trucks that will drive around aimlessly while playing white noise at full volume.

Buy 6,820 and get one free.

“Ban on all public gatherings that could result in spread of Covid-19”

Convenient. Nobody would bat an eyelid if the country wasn’t essentially a dictatorship. Yuck!

That is going to make vaccination centers a lil bit awkward !

If they loaded up the vehicles with vaccines to be distributed, and used, in areas outside of Bangkok I might think them justified.... although military and VIP transport, like helicopters, could do the job better, instead of ferrying VIPs on useless trips hither and thither.

and how do they deal with Bang Sue vaccination centre and all hospitals were gather to get their jab?? I think it is same danger as outside on the streets

So in fact in a car with a mask is allowed??

So, that is all gatherings then. Otherwise, they might be helpful in explaining what ones that can not result in the spread of Covid-19.

Oh don't worry, for sure the police have all been vaccinated!

Or am I (along with the ruling establishment) missing the point somewhere?

I'm sure it's a total coincidence that the we've got super scary stories in the news about the horrors of fast-spreading covid at the same time as people looking to protest.

No, but sure has improved the bottom line of a few politicians resulting in lots of happiness and joy.

But not on vaccines which would negate the reason for a ban.

Fascists...

40,000 for spreading Covid, 100,000 for wearing sunscreen in a National Park?????

Is coral more important than people?

People locked in their homes and no protests in the streets is the dream of any authoritarian government.

The more the people supinely accept, the more the governments prolong its domination based on a state of emergency.

Since the majority of the population prefers to lock at home in front of a TV screen and wait, the state of emergency, based on the pretext of health - but in reality political and ideological - is potentially endless.

Capitalists èlite pretend to save lives by taking life. What is the value and quality of a life deprived of sharing, conviviality, sociability, affection, physical contact, smiles and emotions?

Life is not trivial and materialistic biology, but a psycho-physical quintessence. This is the human being.

As predicted, they have been far worse than the elected government they ousted.

But, they aren't going anywhere and these purchases are a clear indication of that.
