Scanner woes

I have a dell laptop / ubuntu 18.4 / canon e410 printer. Printer/copier work OK but can't get scanner working. Hard to find scanner driver for this combination, though I did previously find driver for Mint 20.1, tried that on ubuntu but doesn't go. Any advice/guidance will be appreciated. Added complication is that I'm an 80yo newbie 80km from Udon Thani. Thanks

I am using an old canon MP 258 printer/scanner with Xubuntu 20.04, but only use the scanner part as the printer crapped out a long time ago, and the printer part had not even been installed.   You need to remember that even though your eyes see one unit, your computer sees two separate things.  My scanner did not have the problems yours has as it was immediately recognized.  One thing I do like about using linux is trying to solve problems like this, as it really helps keep some of those old brain cells alive.

you should use driver for Mint 19.* on Ubuntu 18.4.

IF you are using the KDE plasma desktop on UBUNTU, then please try Skanlite.  It's easy to connect a Canon flatbed scanner with Skanlite on KDE.

Skanlite may be all that you need.

 

Otherwise, just download VUESCAN, which is cheap, but not free of cost.

Vuescan is excellent.

But, I do not use it because I am happy with Skanlite, and Skanlite is completely opensource software, and it is FASTER than the Canon Garbage software that was designed by Canon for my two scanners.

 

If you want ease of use, then try Vuescan. 

You can test for free.

And, you can scan for free, if you do not mind the big watermark.

My scanners (two flatbed scanners LIDE 210 and LIDE 220) are still working perfectly with Opensuse LEAP 15.6....

 

And, then, you will need the proper software.....which is...of course....

 

 

I guess you know the one I use...

And, it's the best.

I love LINUX.

 

I love Linus, especially the photos of him working in his pajamas....

 

Linux desktop is the best.....

 

Gates did his best to derail Linux....

But....

Despite his best efforts....

He just could not keep this puppy down....

 

And here we are now....with

Linux....

Almost EVERYWHERE....

 

Note:  If ABBYY were ported to Linux, then I would like to use this.

 

ABBYY is a heck of a nice piece of software.....  especially versatile....and quite good for OCR, too....

 

If only it were free, as in FREE BEER....
