Anyone know the history of using a lunar calendar for determining major Buddhist holidays?

Do blue moons (multiple full moons in a month) mess up the calendar?

Is this practiced in other schools of Buddism other than Theravaden?

since buddhism has been around for over 2,500 years... before the christian calender was invented... I think all religions used the moon and stars for their events

all Buddha days fall on the moon quarter days... so not exactly once a week
