BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand is in talks with European countries to purchase millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines, a health official said on Thursday, as the Southeast Asian nation tries to speed up its inoculation rollout to contain a wave of infections.

Authorities in Thailand have been scrambling to shore up vaccine supplies, despite the country being the production hub for AstraZeneca shots in the region. Last week, the government said it would borrow https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/short-vaccines-thailand-seeks-borrow-bhutan-2021-08-16 150,000 AstraZeneca doses from the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.

"Some countries may have a surplus of AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines and will be able to sell two to three million doses each month," senior health official Kiattiphum Wongrajit told a briefing.

Kiattiphum did not specify any European countries involved in the talks.

So far, about 9% of Thailand's population of more than 66 million have been fully vaccinated as it deals with its deadliest outbreak of the coronavirus.

The majority of the country’s 1.1 million infections and 10,314 fatalities came after April this year due to the highly-transmissible Alpha and Delta variants, though infection rates have shown signs of easing.

"New cases have peaked and new infections will gradually decrease," Kiattiphum said.

On Monday, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said AstraZeneca would deliver https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/thailand-buy-60-mln-doses-astrazenecas-covid-19-vaccine-2022-2021-08-23 61 million doses that were previously delayed by the end of this year.

Thailand's coronavirus taskforce will decide on Friday whether to relax lockdown measures, including a proposal to shorten a nighttime curfew and allow dining in at restaurants for those who are vaccinated or have been recently tested, he said.

Still! Much as they pretend it's not the case, they've forever been gagging on begging, borrowing, benefitting and groveling from Western countries. And forever will be.

It is pleasing that at least they are not looking in the other direction for once.

Hey, what's the rush guys? Take your time, it's not like Covid is affecting the country or anything.

On a bright note though, at least my Thai colleagues have stopped asking me why my country couldn't handle things brilliantly like the mighty, smart and disciplined Thai people. 2020 was full of that. They never seem to mention it now, weird huh.????

You can't rush these things and there is no need to anyway, all the MP's, senators, generals, assorted hi-sos and Army golf course employees are already jabbed.

I read a lot about vaccines and they look safe, but I don't know why I feel scared to do it.

Because in the past, vaccines went through years of trials and testing. The Covid vaccines have been really REALLY rushed compared to their predecessors.

Because you think Covid is a hoax?

about one in a million people die after receiving the vaccine.

about 2,000 in a million die from Covid.

Your choice.

Except now, over a billion people have received the vaccine, and there have not been any signs of widespread problems.

meanwhile, 4,000,000 have died from Covid.

You're arguing against nothing. What I said is a fact. These vaccines were rushed through. I still got my Pfizer jab this week with a followup next month.

I think many people, rightly or wrongly are very hesitant. Everything in life carries a risk, but having the vaccine also carries a social responsibility with it.

I have had my jabs, albeit with a degree of reluctance and a dollop of fear, but it is the right thing to do.

Natures way of thinning out global over population maybe?

Yep, and you can bet all the restaurants and Gentlemen's clubs at the General's private barracks are all open, with the wine/whisky free flowing and not a mask to be seen.

Maybe I need to place a call to my good buddy Russell Crowe more-so his 'A Beautiful Mind' character. Surprisingly, some of these numbers don't add up:

"Siam Bioscience said the first locally produced AstraZeneca doses were delivered to Thailand’s Ministry of Health ahead of the June 7 start of the country’s official mass vaccination program. It did not say how many were delivered."

"Last month, health officials said that AstraZeneca had asked to delay deliveries of its order of 61 million doses to May 2022."

"On Monday, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said AstraZeneca would deliver https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/thailand-buy-60-mln-doses-astrazenecas-covid-19-vaccine-2022-2021-08-23 61 million doses that were previously delayed by the end of this year. "

By spreading anti-vax propaganda, you are helping the virus to spread.

You don’t understand that the Covid vaccines are based on years of research on SARS 1, a very similar virus.

Instead of spreading doubt, you should be encouraging people to get vaccinated. Shame on you.

Are you volunteering to go first? Any particular ethnic groups that you would like to see thinned out?

or just useless eaters who need to go?

And you're obviously someone looking for an argument for no reason. What I posted was truth, not ant-vax propaganda. Shame on you for over-reacting.

The truth is that the scientific and medical communities agree that the current vaccines are safe and effective, and that anyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

Do you disagree?

Maybe an abacus would be the best suited to unscramble this web of lies:

Oh the shame.

Not so much the shame but the huge loss of face, proving once again that the "leadership" of the government are nowhere near as smart and clever as they believe themselves to be.

The world is laughing at Pinocchio and Anutin with good reason.

How is Cigna able to piggyback on Covid bad news even before the Samaritans? At least elevate the Samaritans a local volunteer organization above a insurance multinational
