Try a PPI.....omeprazole, 40mg to begin with. Take one in the morning with plenty of water, half an hour before you eat anything.....might alleviate the pain. If it does it could indicate an ulcer.

I've been on them for over 14 years.

Is that for Acid Reflux?

OP already states not gallbladder, although depending on materials, gallbladder (like kidney stones) might not show on xrays, but only on ultrasound.

Not expert on gallbladder stones, but the kidney stones that are made of uric acid only show on ultrasound, not on xrays.

Otherwise - gallbladder stones pain just under the last rib on the right, at the front. Kidney stones pain higher up, behind lungs at the back near on the side, and when they are moving, the pain is moving straight down the back and then around appendix moves to front when it's just about to get to bladder.

Uric acid stones are hard to detect with US if they are in the ureter. Non contrast CT scan is used for that (had it myself). Stones are visible with US if they are in the kidneys.

Many years ago I had a pain around the gall bladder area. I went many months with it, and seemed to get worse (psychosomatic effect). Saw a specialist he said it wasn't the gall bladder. It righted itself after a few months. They I had recalled playing sport eaerlier on and straining my muscles in that area. So it could be something as simple as strained rib cartilage or intercostal muscles.

Kind of, but that is like comparing paraffin with rocket fuel.

PPI's block the stomach wall from producing 95% of the acid it would normally produce.

If you take them and the pain subsides or disappears it might at least give you an indication as to what is causing the pain.

PS I have no medical training whatsoever!!!

Thankyou all, chatting about it has made it more bearable, thanks so much!

Had a bout of E. coli recently. The pain wasn't too bad, but there was never any relief, it just never let up and it wore me down over a few weeks.

I can certainly sympathize with what you are going through.

Hope you get it sorted!

Cost me the fat end of 250,000 baht......that hurt much more than the infection.

No I'm not a heavy drinker, have a couple of beers now and again.

If lying on your back helps relieve the pain, it could be something is exerting pressure on your pain nerves .

Why not visit a good chiropractor that will put the organs/bones back in the correct position?

Usually when people say pain under the rib cage they mean the abdomen, is yours rather on the side or back?

And what does it feel like exactly? Could it be a muscle spasm or intestinal cramp? (I take it no diarrhea?)

I would need to know more about the pain (type and exact location) but as CT, US, urine test etc were all negative would tend to suspect a muscle spasm or spinal issue in which case an orthopedic specialist should be next stop.

Uric acid stone should have shown on CT

I'm sure it is muscle related as it has subsided quite alot, as long as I know its not life threatening I'm sure I can cope.

I know if I have a serious problem  it could be the end, I'm not wealthy just have enough to live on and support my gf and step daughter, I have medical insurance 1.2 million and accident insurance 250k that's all I can afford, yep life is difficult but have to accept it.

You describe  having pain but not what type of pain as in aching pain or sharp pain or spasmodic pain.

Have had for some time chronic but recently acute for what duration?. Also relieved when lying down.

Have had scans and probably blood test? which would have checked liver function essentials.

Also hint at ongoing other health issues. Have you any recall of a slip or a fall that impacted on  your ribs or  back? Does moderate pain relief or anti inflammatory meds have much effect?

Aching pain, I've always been fit but recently had a bad accident  broken right leg, had aching pain long before accident, I'm sure it is muscle related as chatting about it has helped alot, now it's just very slight, still there but it's bearable.

If as seems likely it is a muscle spasm or the like, the following measures may help:

- heating pad

- sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees

- NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac etc) provided you have no contraindications (do nto take if you have history of gastric ulcers/gastritis or bleeding disorder, kidney disease or are on anticoagulants)

That plus passage of time will usually suffice

It can cone from heavy drinking.

Not saying your a heavy drinker.

"This serious condition occurs when toxins from alcohol build up in your blood so fast your kidneys can’t maintain the proper fluid balance. Though it’s reversible with treatment, it can increase the risk of developing chronic kidney disease. "

Yes mine did, sorry wasn't I clear? I had a CT after the doc did a regular xray and could not see (or could barely see) the stone. I don't recall havign an US for that particular stone, but US will show them if they were in the kidneys. My CT showed the stone clearly in the ureter, and also a small one in a kidney. I went in for Lithropsry but in the meantime the stone had passed. I didn't have the procedure as as I was laying there they went inside and checked for it (not comfortable afterards!). It was gone from the ureter. I passed it eventually about 2 weeks later.

I did show the doc the stone; he was not certain what kind it was, but it ceetainly looked likt uric acid from its shape and rough texture. Sorry, off topic:)

That's right. A chiropractor is an answer to all who experience any type of back pain or neck pain, sciatica, frequent headaches or need treatment for a car accident injury such as whiplash.
The past few days, I have been suffered from this pain. But thanks to my chiro, I have felt well now. :)

If you have 1.2 million medical insurance why do you worry. I mean that would certainly cover it.

Actually 1.2 million (if baht) is not adequate level of insurance in Thailand if using private hospitals. A single hospitalization, if involving specialized surgeries and ICU care, can easily reach 3 million+.

But of course it is better than nothing. And would usually be adequate for care in a government hospital.

I got a million $ insurance. Not sure why a French company does quotes in dollars but that is what i have.

But for this problem I would think 1.2 million baht should cover at least a lot of test.

1 million USD is more than  adequate for Thailand.  Even 200k US would suffice.

I think Op's concern re the 1.2 million baht is that he has already racked up  a lot this year (reducing amount still available) for all the tests done (they have already doen pretty well every posisble test) and was worrying that this might be something that would require expensive surgery etc. However this does not seem to be the case, given that all test results were negative,  and he likely just has a muscle strain.

Thanks, pain is almost gone just a small ache from time to time, reference insurance if I should suffer anything serious I will be going to Mission Hospital,  I've only had one biggish claim at the Private Hospital which was for TIA Stroke, that was 4 yrs ago, never had a problem since, oh and the visit for the pain which was OPD.
