Graphic designer Sirintira Tonvorakul started to worry after reading about the recent surge in Covid-19 cases amongst children in the country.

In addition to keeping up on personal hygiene practices such as always keeping hands clean, masking up correctly “to ensure that it covers the nose and the mouth” and practicing social distancing, the mother of an 11-year-old daughter started stocking on vitamin C, preparing healthier home-cooked meals and making sure that her only daughter doesn’t stay up late.

“I believe that healthy eating and sleep are very important in helping us maintain a healthy body. I’m trying to cut down on takeaways and cook healthy and delicious dishes, things like spicy chicken soup (tom yum kai) for my daughter. I hope this helps boost immunity and keeps her healthy during the pandemic,” says Mrs. Sirintira, 50.

What nutritional value is in Spicy foods.

how about fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts and raisins , vitimized  banana and yoghurt, plenty of orange juice freshly squeezed , a good roast chicken with heaps of roast potato and pumpkin… etc etc

that’s what u call nutritional..

No mention of good plain vegetables and fruit.    Admittedly much of it comes from China unfortunately.

I've asked many a Thai friend why they don't eat many fruits or vegetables, the simple answer is the pesticides used in enormous quantities.

Testing has shown that they are well above safe levels, but nothing changes.

They say say they'd rather go without than poison themselves.

Is the government going to supply the food for them since many people are not able to get the food as they are unemployed.

It's amazing to see what mother's in line at the local 711 are feeding their children. Junk food isn't as cheap as traditional thai food but business is booming. ????

A key factor of Heath full stop…

Not just in a Pandemic.

Quite alarming is the comment stating ‘the recent surge in Covid-19 cases amongst children in the country’….

Any children getting sick, going to hospital ?

Is there are recent surge in children becoming very unwell with Covid-19, or is this just a little neurotic overreaction ??

Had to be said. Traditional wisdom.

Guess these things have to be brought to the attention of established convention, as this character trait usually don't get it.

This is why they increase pediatric ICU beds in European countries. Kids are not just asymptomatic.

Agreed. A Plant-based diet is the best way to prevent disease. Dump the animal products: meat, eggs and dairy.

I became vegetarian in 1971 and vegan some years later.
There is a twist in that my work was in farming since 1961 and continued to be until I retired a few years ago.
I worked overseas in different countries for most of those years, either on farms or as a freelance consultant based in UK.   I spent 10 years here as a consultant and it's where I have ended up.

Being a vegetarian / vegan was difficult especially when at company dinners but I was never ridiculed.

It takes a bit more in thought when making meals and, eating out is still very limited but "hey" Sizzler is out there !

Yes, many of the veggies and fruit in the market are imported and have a high risk of chemicals.
SO DO meats and fish.
I worked as a consultant in farming here for 10 years and 6 years before that on a bi-monthly basis so I know what gets to eat what.
Example, you have a fish pond under a chicken or duck house, the animals are given feed with "additives" or pharmaceutical products for prevention or treatment because they become sick, the animals in the house poo and that goes through the slatted floor in to the fish pond.   And so it goes !!!

If one is concerned about chemicals take time to look around the market or talk with people about where there is chemical free food.
If there is a Sante Asoke shop then go there.

Probably because children are addicted to sugar / salt / msg at a very very young age.
Junk food is convenient.
My children had the option or animal or vegetarian or vegan food at the table; one daughter who has children of her own that are vegetarian.

Don't forget exercise & more exercise. Healthy mind & body.

Let them go out, run around, get dirty, climb trees, make mud pies, eat a pound of dirt...........just do what we did when we was kids.  I was hardly ever sick until I joined the Army at 17..........
