Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao has announced his resignation today, September 9th, but already effective yesterday, following alleged internal breaches within the Palang Pracharat Party during the censure vote last week.

The Royal Gazette also issued an announcement that Thammanat Prompao and Narumon Pinyosinwat were to leave their ministerial posts as deputy agriculture minister and deputy labor minister respectively.

According to Thammanat’s statement at the parliament today, he decided to resign due to internal rifts and different political ideologies with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha and the Palang Pracharat Party.

I wonder if this will open the door for Thaksin, now that the fixer has jumped ship?

he was conspiring together with prawit.

their plot was discovered and swiftly torpedoed with 5mln bananas at the office of the very PM, as alleged by an opposition MP and yet to be investigated by the house speaker.

It least 10 MP's, that includes some 5 from the future forward, turned cobras (bite back at their parties)

Looks like the cabinet ship might be sinking and the PPP party is in danger of an inward collapse.

This obsessive Shinawatra thing faded some time ago.

Wouldn't attempt to go there.

That particular circle has little to do with anything today.

The place requires a good and thorough cleansing.

Best of luck.

The drug exporter/importer will be much more dangerous now. After all, he was Prayut's 'enforcer'.

Let the games begin.

meanwhile, 'Rome' burns and hundreds are dying daily. ????

It sure is even though your use of the terms "man" and honorable are a tad too flattering.

I think you'll find that it's a big mistake to count Thaksin out.

He was obviously... fired.. by higher authorities.

Have we ever seen a minister.... resigning by himself ?

????

It can't happen here. Never. Therefore he was fired.

As many are pointing out, the language of the Royal Gazette announcement clearly states that Dep-Agric Min Thamanat and Dep-Labor Min @DrNarumonP “should vacate their posts for the good of the administration” - a stark contrast of tone used for resignations. twitter.com/saksithcna/sta…

Firing him when his Australian conviction became public knowledge would have shown strength. Firing him now, not so much.

Enforcing instructions from Germany rather than Prayut?  So lots of shifts at the top?  Don't want to spread fake news, but where do I find the truth?  Not from the 'good' people, that's for sure.

Controversial Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao sacked

Thai-PBS-World-logo-23.jpg

Controversial Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao has been dismissed from the cabinet, effective yesterday (Wednesday), but only announced today, amid an internal conflict between him, on one side, and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda on the other. Also dismissed from the cabinet is Deputy Labour Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat.

The departures of the two ministers from office were published in the Royal Gazette today. Mr. Prayut gave an ambiguous answer to reporters when asked if both departures were a dismissal or a voluntary resignation, saying he has his reasons. But Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam confirmed they were sacked.

Thammanat, in a press conference to announce his resignation today, in an apparent move to snub the government narrative, said that his relationship with Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, also leader of the main coalition party, Palang Pracharat, remains intact, but he has parted ways with both the prime minister and General Anupong and he has decided to follow his own path, although he added that he has not fallen out with the two men.

Nonetheless, he might be out of the immediate loop for now. But rest assured that he'll be back in the mix in one form or another.

The future options is what we should be concerned about with a creepy sociopath like this.

Looking forward to the musical "The Captain and the General" by singer/songwriter Prayut Chan-o-cha.

That should restore some happiness somewhere.

He must have a case of the Long Bay Blues at the moment.

He wants to spend more time with his wives.

The bigger question is: Did prawit send thmamanat on this mission? And was it real, or just an attempt to find out who might be disloyal?

Things look to be in disarray, but here there is still always a reason for the apparent madness.

Can't see any way out other than a self-coup. Or maybe a RTA factional coup, which would then allow for a more liberal society, but leave the monarchy unreformed?

Seems weird that an institution which is above politics chooses to endorse/ratify political party personnel changes? I assume this is "normal"?

I - for one - shall miss the crook; he added lots of entertainment to the daily avalanche of what came out of the government house.

As he is now "retired", a pilgrimage to Lourdes could be taken into consideration. After all, he has abilities beyond the average Joe; just take the misfortune of leaving Bangkok with a few kilogrammes of baking flour in your luggage just to get arrested upon arrival in Sydney. That nasty flour turned into illegal substance - hence some blessings from Lourdes or Fatima would be in order - me thinks!

Yep, the strings are cut and now he has the freedom to pursue his next move, interesting times.
