The surprise departure of Palang Pracharath’s secretary-general, Thammanat Prompow, from the Cabinet threatens to cause disarray in the ruling party and impact its performance at the next general election.

The dismissal of Thammanat, arguably the ruling coalition’s most powerful political broker, has baffled political observers, who were convinced he had made peace with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha by apologizing to him before the recent censure debate.

Observers say Thammanat’s removal could damage the ruling party’s chances of winning the next election.

My sense is this is just a penalty box situation.

He was getting a bit ahead of himself, so he needed to be slapped down.

He knows where the bodies (inside 55 gal drums, partially dissolved) are buried and submerged.

He'll be back.

Possibly with yet another name change?

Yet a competing OP says things could be looking up for this government as covid cases decline....

No news apart from growing numbers, so bring on the opinions.

Irrelevant, those with the biggest guns will win the next election.

with all the fraud and manipulated votes as last time shows, nothing will happen to the ruling party.... They will do the same again

Truly amazing, where the ejection of a convicted heroin trafficker among other offenses, and someone who appears from the outside to be a straight up mafia figure- DAMAGES the hopes of the party of reelection....

Well that may well be one of the "party members_ or opposition who are alleged recipients,  of largesse to the tune of $200,000 per vote during the no confidence "debate".

Paryut was willing to turn a blind eye to all the baggage, but a pop at him was not going to be tolerated.

And who says it is damaging, if the ruling boys are not creaming off the next election? Asking for friend ????

I doubt it, as he was elected as convicted drug smuggler, one assumes the voters don't care a monkeys aunt.

Let us hope and pray. The reality is in a free and fair election, with or without the convicted heroin dealers help, Prayuth and his henchmen would only get one or two percent of the vote. Of course, if they used their 250 toxic and spectacularly corrupt senators to decide, game over. Thailand then moves one step closer to Sierra Leone and Burundi, and continues on the path toward poverty, desolation and irrelevance.

The Giant Prayuth descent.

I fear you are giving a correct analysis

Less one forgets the stacked judicial system, cash payouts and underhanded manipulation.

Guns are so gauche.

Yes, as bleak as it is for Thailand.

He has obviously misplaced the photos he has of Prayut mounting the goat. He had better spend some time searching through his files in order to find them again.

I felt good seeing this rapscallion depart.

I've know clue why some areon rapture over him.

He's an outright liar and convicted heroin dealer.

Don't become too excited over this.

He really hasn't departed, just stepped aside.

This affair is nothing short of the ruse.

Most have swallowed the bait.

Distractions.

Nice to see everyone a little paranoid within the government.

It was a little thing.

Surprised he didn't invoke the high special law towards his critics, be they in the circle of trust or not.

Wonder who the next faux loyalists will get the axe?

Just an in-house purge.  Happens all the time.  How could anyone be surprised at this point, it's Thailand.

Actually, I really don't know why all the excitement of selected news worth.

Just another day at the office for these folks.
