As I get older my tolerance for idiots seems shorter ...

 

I'm in lockdown in Australia so I'm missing Asia ..my gym...etc ...so last night Skyped with a old fellow who went to Thailand with me a few times but .. I just had to tell him about his negatively and immaturity...I don't know maybe it's my getting old ...

 

But on talking about going back to Pattaya he had to continually run down gay people in profanities ...over & over ....I got to the state I had to tell him...mate you know your 76 isn't it time to stop the hate ?

 

 

Mate it is his prerogative to express his opinion on what ever he thinks fit. You just showed your own opinion and well, your hate.

As I get older I'm not interested in "hate" whether those people be gay,transexual,black ,green or whatever 

I go to Thailand/Asia to have a good time not to hate someone who is different from you .

 

Ok I would tolerate it with a younger person having those opinions but not some old codger my age who should get over it 

I was in Pattaya with this Australian friend he is 76 last time where in McDonald's he proceeded to call a farang & his Thai BF a "F.....GG..t ... something I shouldn't of let go at the time .

I'm over farangs  who hate others ...the moment I hear a farang start saying negatively about someone sex preferences I'm out of there

We choose our friends. If he no longer (sounds like he never did) supports the opinions you hold dear and that offends you, you don't have to spend any more time with him.

“Friends” or non- dependent Family not providing nett emotional benefit have become “ toxic” and should be cut lose……for self-preservation, all toxic people must be avoided….. life rule.

Totally agree with your view, but it does beg the question why you have such a bigoted ass.hole as a friend. 
 

Also, not sure you would tolerate it from a younger person. 
 

As for the negativity, if the foreigners were half as miserable as they seem on some of these forums then I feel for their partners/kids. Must be a horrible environment to live in.

Look don't get me wrong..I can be bias too and have many British friends in Pattaya who tell me their against immigration to their country and I agree with them..I'm also against immigration to Australia but I'm not singling out any race during this recession...but if I hear someone like he did in Pattaya shouting at a gay farang with obscenity then yes it did make me angry and I should of spoke up !

Surely you older guys are mature enough to accept sake sex couples

OP, I can hardly understand your issue in the sense your making it an issue by even giving the guy the time of day.

Recently I have sort of cut off a chap I know over years here in Bangkok. 

He was taking glee in the fact with current covid situation he was able to obtain cheap condo stays for various trip and the roads were great with no traffic.

I suggested that I would prefer to have crowded roads and Thai businesses busy for benefit of Thai rather than his childish attitude. 

He hasn't contacted me since and visa vera.

Cut ties with your "friend". He ain't worth it.

Because it starts innocently with say but suddenly progresses to do as I say.

Never understood this. Why would what other people do bother someone if it does not affect them?

Especially over here. Go into many bars and there will be at least one ladyboy working in there. Some of them are pretty busy.

But if you are not interested in them they will not be interested in you. Its a waste of their time. Same with gay people. I worked with an openly gay man. I treated him no differently to anyone else I worked with. He was good at his job which was all I needed. I believe it was all he expected as well.

His negativity is his to allow to eat him out, (prob wonders why he has few friends (not drinking mates) , however homophobia ,sexism and misogyny needs to be challenged, otherwise you become their collaborator.

 

Pick better friends and keep the toxic ones either at arms length or out of your life completely.  No need to join the perpetually offended and try to change someone so set in their ways and think that they’ll get over their hate no matter their age.

From my perch, covid has little effect on me financially etc.

I would rather be talking with farang that are doing charity to assist others than pointing out the discounts available due to covid.

No one has the right to abuse anyone, in a public setting more so. If I saw anyone being abused I would stop it.What I nelieve is not important, how you treat people is.

Being a senior does not give you the right to be rude, although some blatantly do as they feel they wont come to harm as perhaps a younger person would if they shot their mouth off.

That said, if anyone offends you with their attitude and/or beliefs its time to walk away from them.

 

 

I am an ol' guy myself, but I have noticed that a few ol' blokes I know have gone a bit strange, odd, a Mr.Angry, what ever you want to call it.

 

Perhaps just the natural progression of old age.

Actually, everyone has the legal right to abuse anyone. As long as it’s not physical. 

I'm really over Thailand. If I needed fascism, I would have voted for Trump. I have no interest in anyone else's sexual orientation. It doesn't concern me. What DOES concern me is the constantly shifting position of Thai Immigration. The government does not want farangs who are not independently wealthy. The fact that this country has NOTHING to attract those "golden gooses", is far above the ability of a Thai bureaucrat to understand.
