Manager reported that the Tourism Authority of Thailand's chief in Prachuap Khiri Khan province was confident of improvements to the Hua Hin economy when the seaside resort opens up to foreign tourists next month.

Issara Sathapanaset expects most of the visitors to be Hong Kongers, Scandinavians, Malaysians and Singaporeans.

He said he had been working on five plans that involved vaccination, marketing and mitigation if things go awry.

The plans and SOPs are due to go to local authorities and then the central CCSA committee for approval.

Issara said that most of the direct flights into Hua Hin would come from within a 5-6 hour flight radius with the principal ones arriving from Hong Kong as well as ASEAN.

The Manager report was surprisingly lacking in predictions of numbers or revenue.

Other reports that mentioned expectations have been widely ridiculed.

Hua Hin's "recharge" opening - still slated for October 1st - is part of Thailand's second phase of reopening after the Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus Model were initiated over the last few months.

This second phase includes Chiang Mai, Pattaya/Sattahip and Cha-Am though confusion reigns as to when Bangkok will reopen to foreigners.

Suffice to say that the TAT was wrong on several of their wild predictions so far, can't see it changing anytime soon with this new 'prophecy' of zillion HK tourists coming to HH and for what? just the sea and the beach coz everything else is shut...

The Scheinese will soon start to control money outflows. They will be short of money and restrict and control all money outflows.

Thailand banking on the Chinese. Good luck with that 555

Remember, in their minds the whole world can't wait to get into Thailand because it's the best place in the world.

Along similar lines it will be Indonesian boat people soon specially diverted from their route to Australia ????????

I believe fake news, Hong Kong’s policy is zero covid. Meanwhile, Thailand policy wants to reopen the country despite 10000 covid each day.

"The Manager report was surprisingly lacking in predictions of numbers or revenue."

Hardly surprising after the failure of the Phuket Sandbox which reached only 25% of the predicted numbers.

Tourists would be crazy to come here with the constant flip flops, odious paperwork and testing, and mixed messages from various Govt departments.

I would imagine the numbers from the UK are lower than anticipated as Thailand still remains on the UK's RED list.

I been waiting to get back into Hong kong without quarantine for a long time. I'm a HK Permanent ID Card holder. TAT haven't got a clue. The HK'ers aren't going to come. Do they know it's the rainy season as well?

We at the TAT admit we know absolutely nothing about re-opening a country, after being closed for nearly two years, and after a pandemic, which has seriously hurt billions of lower and middle income people around the world. Oh, they were the primary visitors to Thailand for the past several years? No matter. Not important. Why? Because, we are really, really smart people. And Thailand is the center of the known universe, and the world simply cannot live without us.

And since we are so smart, we know how to attract back the people who have been turned off by our extremely cowardly approach to tourism, even though we are the real zombies now. All we have to do is come up with some clever slogans. Remember Amazing Thailand? That was us!

Therefore, we say there will be HUUUUGE numbers, once we open the doors. The world will come flooding into Thailand, like never before. And so much money is going to be made. We cannot wait. Soon. Just watch.

Exactly the reason those of us in HKG can't go to Thailand. Was planning on a trip in Jan if they can get it back to 1 week or less.

Once it was realised covid wasn't ebola and those that want to be vaccinated have been - there's not much else that can be done. Time to open up.

This just exemplifies the TAT's disconnect with the real world. Potential tourists who will have to undergo mandatory hotel quarantine upon their return home simply won't come. Not in any sizable numbers at least.

Come on Khun Issara, why not Martians and moon dwellers? I hear they are big spenders. Perhaps even retire and buy property here.

Me too...and, as you know, there are plenty of nice beaches to go to in Hong Kong,  AND,restaurants, bars are open. No stupid alcohol restrictions there. No curfew.

But the 21days of quarantine are a killer......even when you're fully vaxed (with Pfizer in my case)

I cannot actually believe this clown has been quoted.. Anyone entering Hong Kong has to do a 21 day quarantine in a hotel with regular tests. There is no chance anyone from Hong Kong is coming here until their qurantine is dropped. And the earliest that will be is after April next year.. Honestly this Thai govt are becoming the worlds laughing stock.

Ditto. All my family and are HK PR and haven't been back since Covid.. Not expecting them to drop quarantine until mid next year at the earliest and that will only be with approval from Beijing. TAT really haven't got a clue. Sandbox won't work either. Fully open without any restrictions other than every visitor, adults I mean, shows proof of double vaccination. That's the only workable solution..

Here another one, no I'm not a permanent ID card holder but like to visit HK for long time.

And than we have to listen to this stupid talk of a manager who is 'working' for the TAT.
