snoop1130
Bangkok, 21 September, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to report that since the launch of the Samui Plus programme to fully vaccinated international travellers with no need to quarantine on 15 July, 2021, the number of arrivals to Samui through to 20 September totalled 786, resulting in 9,823 room nights and 58.90 million Baht in revenue. Most of these arrivals were from European countries with the top three source markets being France with 136 arrivals, Germany with 119 arrivals, and the UK with 105 arrivals. Other markets included the Netherlands, the USA, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Hong Kong, and Japan. During the period, Bangkok Airways’ 132 sealed route flights between Samui and Bangkok helped facilitate transit/transfer passengers under the Samui Plus programme connecting through the Thai capital. In addition, since the launch of the Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension programme on 16 August, 2021, international travellers have been able to continue their trip to Samui after first staying seven nights in Phuket. Through to 20 September, 2021, a total of 232 visitors have extended their trip via Bangkok Airways’ 16 sealed route flights between Samui and Phuket, which resulted in 1,245 additional room nights and 7.46 million Baht in revenue. Moreover, during 15 July and 20 September, Samui also welcomed 575 international travellers who have completed a 14-night mandatory stay in Phuket under the Sandbox programme. Samui Plus has currently recorded 11,062 room nights on the books from 855 visitors up until 10 December. Separately, there are advance bookings for 3,141 room nights from 490 visitors under the Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension up until 27 November. Not quite 'all year'. Since July for three months and whilst in the middle of an epidemic. Not great numbers yet - but better than zero.
lolalol
"Room Nights" is becoming a new unit of measurement. They should just call it the "RN". In my entire life, I've never thought I'd be reading any news about economic performance backed by data measured in "RN". In order to make sense of this data, I'll have to see the data of previous "RN", before this one, so I could at least have a sense of how much weight this "RN" has. Maybe this is because I don't work in the hospitality sector. I'm more used to seeing revenues and profits, probably most of us are. It says that they have generated 58.90 million Baht in revenue over 3 months. That is about US$1.75 million for 3 months. That is about US$584,000 for a month. That is even lower revenue than my friend's chicken wing restaurant back home. Maybe this is better than nothing? I'll have to see the profit to tell. So where is the profit? Gottfrid
Not bad compared to 200 000 visitors.

In this situation I would count any + sign at the end of the month as a win. Fed up of - signs.
rwill
From the linked article: "Samui Plus has currently recorded 11,062 room nights on the books from 855 visitors up until 10 December." So that is about 285 people per month. I wonder what the figure was a couple of years ago. I would also guess that if a couple booked a room they are counting that as 2 room nights for each night. There's a worldwide pandemic going on, how did other tourist areas around the Wold manage..? 11,062 room nights is 11,062 times better than 1 (cannot say 0)..????
