BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has reiterated to the United Nations that Thailand is ready to play a part in revolutionizing global food systems to ensure food security around the world.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha made the declaration to the United Nations Food Systems Summit, underlining Thailand’s capacity as a major agricultural nation to play a part in the world’s transition towards ensuring food security.

He stated that the COVID-19 situation has highlighted global inequalities in food availability and Thailand wishes to take part in revolutionizing these systems, to ensure sustainability and fairness so that all people have access to clean and healthy food.

The PM held up the Kingdom’s successful food projects in support of his proclamation, citing its ability to remedy food shortages and malnutrition in its own remote regions and the ’agriculture for lunch’ program, initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The premier noted that the UN’s five proposals for transforming world food systems are in line with Thailand’s 3S farming and food policy, which consists of food safety, security and sustainability. He assured the Food Systems Summit that the Kingdom is ready to work closely with partners at all levels to strengthen food systems and to revolutionize them towards worldwide sustainability.

Most of the farmers where I am are past retirement age, the youth of today don't want to live in poverty. The price for a rice harvest seems to fall every year and with climate change comes the insecurity, it has become a guessing game when to plant, you either get drought or flooding, farming is a mugs game.
