Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha is the latest in Thailand to big up the prospects of tourism this coming "high season".

 

Prayuth went on Facebook to say that it is not unreasonable to expect that a million foreign tourists will visit Phuket in the third quarter of this year (that has already started) and in the first three months of next year (the first quarter of 2022).

 

He expects 5,000 tourists to arrive each and every day, echoing TAT assessments previously reported by ASEAN NOW.

 

Many of these will be Russians and British, he noted.

 

The PM intimated that the Phuket Sandbox had been his idea as he was mindful of the devastation to the important tourism sector caused by the pandemic.

 

He outlined the numbers so far in Phuket (37,576 in three months of reopening) and called for a new approach to attracting tourists to the island and to Samui.

 

He favors "workations" to help achieve this - getting foreigners in who are both holidaying and working at the same time. 

 

This will pump 60 billion baht into the Thai coffers, he claimed.

No new look with people still queuing for food handouts so the question needs to be asked WHERE is all the reported money going and into WHOS pockets , certainly not the people

again he includes Brits, who upon returning from Thailand require to go into quarantine for 10 days at a cost of over 2000GBP.

 

Think people need to go on his facebook site and tell him about the UKs quarantine rules

I see it now. Tourists arriving at Phuket airport , agreeing on a price of 10,000 baht for a ride to their hotel and on the way throwing 20 baht notes out the window like confetti at every native they see waiting to cross the road. 

I love this magic trick where they pull numbers out from their rear end.. ????

 

So are they allowing foreigners to come on holiday and WORK here now?  I thought that was illegal unless you have a work permit?

The Tourism and Sports Ministry expected to start collecting a 500-baht tourism fee next year. It is claimed it is for a "tourism transformation fund."  No details given.

Making a product more expensive usually dampens demand, but they believe it is wealthy people coming and they will not notice.

The very large mask helps the lies and aspirations to be muffled but could lead to your face shrinking before loosing it completely ????

You have undermined your own credibility time and time again, with bad information, fake news, broken promises, and terrible leadership. Do you even know what the definition of leadership is? 

True leaders really are in the service of their people. True leaders act with integrity and in doing so they establish trust. True leaders genuinely value their people and in doing so they create loyalty. True leaders are in the business of assisting people to realize their full potential, and in doing so they inspire excellence. Nobody can demand respect, loyalty or trust, like you constantly do. These things have to be earned. There are no short cuts, no way to cheat the process. Great leaders have integrity and truly value their people. And you do not inspire confidence, as you have never had any follow up in your weak game, you are highly insincere, and grossly incompetent and under qualified for the job. One would think after 7 plus years you have had time to learn. That does not appear to be the case. Prayuth, you are a terrible leader. 

Keep showing us how fearful and weak you are. And keep sabotaging the tourism industry with that fear. Open the nation now, with no restrictions, and the kinds of numbers you are spouting, are at least a possibility. Continue with your cowardly ways, and all hope is lost for tourism here.

      Preparing to transition into his new job as head of TAT.  He might want to take a check on TAT's tourism statistics for the year of 2019.  There were less than a million UK visitors to ALL of Thailand that booming pre-covid year.
