AstraZeneca drug cocktail succeeds in late-stage study to treat COVID-19

AstraZeneca has requested emergency approval from U.S. regulators for its antibody cocktail, the first protective shot other than vaccines against COVID-19, another potential major step in the global fight to combat the virus.

While vaccines rely on an intact immune system to develop targeted antibodies and infection-fighting cells, Astra’s biotech compound known as AZD7442 contains lab-made antibodies designed to linger in the body for months to contain the virus in case of an infection.

It is nice to see that the RDS is also including the ATK test positives in their view as a case of Covid and not a possible case, and making the point known so that all folks understand that the cases

  • I am starting to question this today when the family  across the street last week were all tested and told they had covid, they were not taken to a facility ,just told to stay home. Now this family is

Would this be used on it's own or as a booster?  Sounds like it might be another addition to the Merk pills that have been produced.  One day we may see OTC medication such as TheraFlu or things like Nyquil and Dayquil.

I just mentioned that in another thread, its the ones who don't report that you need to worry about although you cant blame them. As I understand it though, if a Thai takes a home test to find it positive then its worthwhile reporting it to get a food allowance and home medication if they are not suffering severe symptoms.

And will all those on Home medications and Isolation be included within the Daily Positives that are reported.

I think I already know the answer to my own question.

All hands on deck, Chiang Mai is supposed to be opening a sandbox on the 1st Nov!

Health officials race to curb spread of COVID-19 cluster in Chiang Mai’s Muang Mai market

Thai public health officials have been trying to track down 10 people from five different provinces who may have been exposed to COVID-19 during their visits to Muang Mai market in Chiang Mai, where 265 people, mostly traders and workers, have been found to be infected.

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Assistant Spokesperson Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan said, today (Monday) that the Muang Mai and Sor Tor Gao market clusters, in which 91 people are infected so far, continue to spread, resulting in six additional clusters affecting another 106 people to date.

Yes, Chiang Mai is included in several provinces due to open on Nov 1 subject to no new large clusters.

Does this constitute as a new large cluster?

Another scene from Dad's Army, "don't panic, don't panic".

What's it going to be like when the hordes of tourists allegedly arrive?

Define a large cluster?

Clueless.

If they only test with the ATK tests are they going to count it as a cluster, or only if they are tested via PCR, inquiring minds want to know?

Will they then just bubble and seal these folks in and still move on with the grand reopening, and as has been shown in the past will it be "Out of sight and out of mind", nothing to see here folks just move along...

Its a pity Thailand does not do a reciprocal gesture.

From 11 October 2021, people who travel to Great Britain from Thailand and have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with doses from AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson, will be able to visit the UK without quarantine.

The we have Thailand's requirements.............................

Latest on Thailand's Entry Regulation (For Alternative Quarantine Travellers) From 1 October 2021, quarantine period is reduced from 14 days to 7 or 10 days for all air travellers. This applies to all travellers, regardless of their port of origin.

1 in 20 with of an endemic disease is terrible.

Totally dehabilitating for the individual involved and the cost to the health care system in a civilised society.

However, it's nice of you to attempt to reply for the original poster.

You're welcome. However 1/20 of 1% (as per Khon Kaen) is not a reason for widespread angst among the general population no matter how debilitating for those in that category.

PM to say something ‘important’ tonight

The prime minister’s office says he will deliver an “important” address to the nation at 8:30pm, and social media is speculating it could address his poorly aged promise to reopen the country by Friday.

Although the topic of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha’s televised address is being kept under wraps, the comments class believe he might address his June vow to fully reopen the nation by mid-October, aka Friday.

Others believe he will announce something in response to complaints his administration is passing the buck on relief programs back to the public. Other members of the Twitterati are just fantasizing that he will step down.

Further lifting of COVID-19 restrictions to be decided on Thursday

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) will decide on Thursday (October 14th) whether to ease the semi-lockdown restrictions further after the first set of easing has seen decreased infections and mortality rates, although infections are increasing in a limited number of areas.

Apart from the current measures being reconsidered, the CCSA will also decide on finalised details of the reopening of some provinces on November 1st. Numbers aren’t the only factor, however, and if the is a rapid increase in infections, easing of lockdown measures will have to be reconsidered.

COVID-19 Spreads Fast in Far South

BANGKOK, Oct 11 (TNA) – Southern border provinces face worse COVID-19 outbreaks than greater Bangkok and the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) urged local people to seek vaccinations because 60% of new fatalities in the far South never received a COVID-19 jab.

CCSA’s assistant spokesperson Dr. Apisamai Srirangson said a small number of people in southern border provinces had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The COVID-19 infection rate was 22% in southern border provinces while the rate in greater Bangkok stood at 19%, she said.

"This is the high season and we cannot miss this opportunity because I do not believe people will be able to cope with it if we missed this golden opportunity for two years in a row," Prayut said.

Sounds like he has resolved himself and the country to accept the possible risks in order to keep the country from completely imploding.

Now we just need to wait and see if a COE will also be needed. If this holds and is as he says then I could travel back to the US and return to my home here in BKK without jumping through any hoops which would be fantastic and definitely is a game changer.  They need to get the requirements and all of what he just said published in the royal gazette so that those wanting to come in December can make their plans now, and be ensured no changes occur.  They need to stick to what he said tonight if they wish to be taken seriously.

Exactly, details are needed now, COE, insurance, what happens if you test positive while here in Thailand, is an SHA booking required and do you need to stay in the same zone first etc etc. Lots yet to reveal.

Thai PM announces quarantine-free entry - for fully-vaccinated travelers from low risk countries - for 1st time since April 2020. From 1 November. But 10pm curfew stays for now, bars are closed, restaurants can’t serve alcohol till 1 December. Hospitality industry won’t be happy.

This is indeed good news.  A happy Christmas awaits!

Full English version of the address includes this snippet which sounds promising and does not indicate the need for a sandbox arrangement.

"All that visitors will need do is to show that they are COVID-free at their time of travel with an RT-PCR test undertaken before they leave their home country, and do a test in Thailand, after which they will be free to move around Thailand in the same way that any Thai citizen can do."

It is what should have been happening all along as I said earlier today it was a huge inequity as well as a money grab by forcing them to stay in certain locations for 7 or 14 days.  It is the one reason I never flew back to the states and then return as the ASQ I would need to stay in, or the one i would have chosen is just 500meters from my home here in BKK.  It wasn't the money that was the issue that kept me from doing it, it was the principal as I live here and am not a tourist, yet would be treated like one.

60/10035=.006 or .6 %   A good number from a TAT point of view methinks
