Requiring Medical Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am now living pretty much full time in Thailand now, up near Udon Thani.

I need to sort out medical insurance by mid November.

I realise that insurance requirement is specific to the individual and a plethora of suppliers/options are available.

I have a few emails sent to various companies for quotes but would be extremely grateful for any advice/pointers/ recommendations from members.

I am 62 , no preconditions.

Am afraid whilst the sentiment is good on paper brokers (the world over) will always push the Insurers who pay the highest commissions... I should know having spent 7 years in the industry

Sometimes they happened to coincide with the best policy anyway but it was rare

I did not encounter any such pressure with AA, at all. Just information provided and up to me to select from widen range.

Same here, they only provided a summary of premiums, deductables and cover, i would have preferred a bit more of recommending one over another and why, but zilch

You should go through a Broker. Not only will a good broker help you review options, and provide feedback on how reliable different insurers are, they will help afterwards with claims.

I recommend (and use) AA Brokers. Expat staff, specialisze in expat health insurance.

www.aainsure.net

And I also strongly recommend against a Thai-issued policy. See this thread for discussion of why  https://aseannow.com/topic/1233808-insurance/

Get an internationally issued expat policy.

Other important considerations:  direct billing arrangement with a large number of Thai hospitals, guaranteed lifetime renewal

Many thanks Sheryl...a fountain of knowledge.

WRLife are worth a look. They guarantee not to increase your Premiums with age, as long as there are no claims.

A total scam. You pay a Premium to pay out up to a certain level. But as soon as you claim they double that Premium.

The accepted nature of Insurance Mafias, generally speaking.

Because we allow them to practice in such a corrupt and unethical manner.

400k-800k cover, that is very very low, premiums are relatively high for the cover. They talked a good game on their website
