Maybe I should add that unless I fan my modem my internet stops :o

Forgive the daft question, but where is the modem located? If the modem is sat on top of the PC, something I often see, it may be suffering from the heat of the PC itself. Mine which I keep mean to replace runs very hot {to the touch} but doesn't cut out. The Huawei MT800's and for that matter other pieces of domestic network kit aways seem to be toasters, don't know why.

Regards

Ours gets hot too, does it affect the speed?

It does affect the speed, it just doesn't load any pages unless it's got it's own fan :o

The modem is just sitting on my desk, away from everything else, the fan I use is so noisy too!

Any tips are appreciated!

Might be worth trying the unit both horizontally as well as vertically. Maybe the heat will dissipate more easily if horizontal without cooking other components. I have heard of people attaching small PC fans to some kit, to drive air through, and if you use a low noise fan it would be quieter.

I've found a solution, it works OK, not perfect but better than a big old fan blasting away at a tiny little modem

This USB fan cost B300 in Pantip and apart from having little annoying flashing lights as it spins around it is actually very quiet!
