Am looking for some help - making the Bangkok to Koh Tao trip next month (July).

I've found a Bangkok - Surat Thani flight for 399Bt - sounds ideal, but arrives at 10.15am. What's the best way to get to Koh Tao from there (trying to minimise any ferry-time).

The flight to Samui with Bangkok Airways is a bit too pricey - about USD185.

Am already aware of the overnight train to Chumphon (ferry from there), but I really need to make this trip in one day.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Cheers,

Fred

Freddie, if minimising ferry times is the objective then either the overnight bus or train to Chumphon then ferry to Tao is the way to go.Going to Surat or Samui entails you then having to ferry first to KPN then Tao. You can get a bus/ ferry ticket for around 600 baht from Khao san rd or just jump on the night train and walk round the corner to Fame tours to get a ticket to Tao.Hope this helped.

Mid totally miss the point of your post mate. Straight over the top?????????????????????????????????????????

Apologies if it wasn't clear - I'd had a couple of G&T's before I posted. :o

Essentially, I would like to leave Bangkok in the morning, and arrive in Koh Tao on the same day.

As far as I can see, the easiest way is to fly to Samui, then take a ferry to Koh Tao - however the cost may be prohibitive. I would like to fly Bkk to Surat Thani - the flight arrives at 10.15am.

So I think I can boil it down to a couple of questions...

- Will the 10.15am arrival time of the flight leave me enough time to catch the 'long' ferry from Surat Thani to Koh Tao (I understand it can take up to 9hrs )?

- How about taking a taxi / bus / songthaew from Surat Thani to Chumphon, from there could I take the 'short' ferry to Koh Tao? Is that feasible? Would it be expensive?

Thanks for you time.

It would be a 220 kms. Not something u want to do, endure and pay.

I have no answer other than go to Chumpon and get a ferry from there.
