Another Non-immigrant Visa Question

Featured Replies

Appreciate if Lopburi3 or other experts could clarify this one for me.

Several years ago I had a multiple Non-B visa which has since been subsequently extended based on marriage for the past 4 years or so. My question is what category of visa do I now have?

In 2005 I requested my visa extension to be transferred into a new passport and amongst the entries shown is the small stamp for the original multi Non-B up to 2003 and small stamp for the extended one 1 year visa described as Non-RE. Can anyone explain what RE represents as I have never come across this before. I have always assumed that my visa is Non-O now. I have never had any problems with subsequent extensions that state Thai wife.

In addition, after the transfer of visa into my new passport I began working and still work in the same job with a work permit. If I ever ceased employment in the future am I correct in saying that I wouldn't have to leave the country within 10 days as my visa extension is based on marriage, which I prefer, rather than employment?

1. You have an extension of stay based on a non immigrant visa entry. The entry visa was B but that is not material now as far as I know.

2. No sure what Non-RE would be but perhaps regular extension? At any rate do not believe it is important.

3. You would not have to leave (until you could not meet the extension requirements). Only those on extension of stay for the job lose the extension of stay with loss of job.

You are here on an extension of stay - not a visa (that is only used to enter the country the first time). When you enter the country now you use a re-entry permit - not a visa.

I suspect the NON-RE refers to your original multi-entry visa.

As you have extended on the basis of marriage I do not believe you will have to leave

if you quit your job.

You will still have to show the family income of 40K pm at the next extension.

Thanks as always for your prompt and informative response.
