With an economy almost entirely dependent on the tourist industry, Thailand is today lifting quarantine restrictions and allowing fully vaccinated foreign visitors from 63 countries and territories to enter in a bid to boost revenue from tourism during the last two months of 2021.

Although the reopening will not see a major turnaround in visitors any time soon, Kakisorn Research Center calls it an important milestone because it reflects the efforts being made by all parties to get the tourism sector back on track after being affected by the coronavirus for the best part of two years.

The pandemic caused a drastic decrease in visitor numbers from 40 million in 2019 to just 73,000 in the first 8 months of this year, the worse record for this tourism-dependent country in more than two decades.

7000 international tourists are coming today,   23000  locals are flying into Bangkok today   !!!

quick TAT ...  get ready    !!!!

The situation is bad enough without the article having to exaggerate about the time period. It's not 'almost two years'. it's just over a year and a half - end of March to beginning of October. A year and seven months plus a few days.

It is almost 2 years, tourist numbers in Thailand started dwindling end of January when China banned all its tour groups from leaving China, the impact was noticeably felt especially here in Phuket.

I would like to wish the whole tourism industry the very best of luck! Schools and other stuff opens today, and there will be a spike... but let's hope that they don't blame it on tourism.

We all need things to get back to as close to before as possible.

Yup, have a buddy who is coming on Nov 11th who had just uploaded his last piece of COE documentation when he got a rejection notice and a congratulations for being one of the 1st to be able to use the Thailand Pass system.  Not a happy camper.  Waiting for a report from him as he tries to use Thailand Pass right now.

I hope it's early because 7000 will take a bit of processing.

See it from the positive side. In my daughters school they only estimate to the closest full part. In that case it´s perfectly right. 19 month is closer to 2 years, than only 1 year. ????

You don't understand the strategy here. Tourists will come and spend money for maybe 2 weeks, get infected, banned from travel home. Extended stay in the hospital or ASQ this is how this government plans to double the profits and restart tourism with small number of tourists. ????  Cleaver as they are 555.

the Thailand Pass system comments are in!

It's probably not far off 2 years when the panics started to set in with all the cancellations started to rock up, that was before Thailand started to shut the airports down and airlines cancelling flights,

Yeah, I think we all know. Thanks for the info anyway. If you totally missed it, I will just inform you about that my whole post was a sarcastic joke about how good they are counting here.
