Usually most people are either too shy, scared to death just to ask about it, or simply don't know what the actual Regulations say. And being that THIS Section IS about Travel, I know this Question runs through many people's minds as they are packing their Bags to Head to Thailand.

WHAT IS ILLEGAL to Bring into Thailand?

Of Course we know that Drugs are illegal, but did you know that some places will freak out over VITAMINS, and Cold Medicine. I think that Psudeophedrine Hydrocholride can be Purchased in Thailand, but I think there is actually a Law about bringing it into the Country. It is illegal in many places, I'm not sure about Thailand. It is the ingredent used to make Crack, but it is also a Legal Cold Medicine, and many people just take the Cold Medicine by itself as a Sex Stimulant. But I think this Question about What is Legal, and what isn't should be a Topic on the Travel Section of this Site.

Another interesting Question is what about Sex items?

I was really worried about this the First time I went to Thailand. Because I really didn't KNOW what the Law was.

Sincerely trying to find out, I actually e-mailed the Customs people in Thailand. They never responded back to me.

But the way I understood the Law, Correct me if I am wrong, is, any Magazines showing Intercourse is the Definition of Pornography in Thailand. Magazines only containing nud_e Pictures are not Necessarily considered Pornography.

However a Written Book or Magazine that specifically talks about Sexual ACTS IS Considered Pornographic.

I don't really believe that Law is Righteous and I think that the Thai people need to Change those Laws and stop throwing people in Jail for admiring the beauty of Sex, and start worrying more about the Muslims Blowing everything up. But that is beside the point.

The Point is WHAT IS ILLEGAL? And What Isn't?

What about Whips and Chains? (Yeah, that's right, I said it. :o

When I went through Customs the First time carrying a bunch of Accessories :D

I was so worried about it I just said Screw it, I am going to the Red Zone and Declare the Stuff.

The Customs people in Thailand were very cool about it actually. They did not act like it was illegal in anyway.

However "Toys" I was told IS illegal. Such as Plastic Dongs or stuff like that.

But Accessories, such as Handcuffs, I got the impression from the Customs people that they are Technically NOT Illegal because they Technically are not Sex items. For example a Whip can be used on an Animal, so it can not be classified as a Sex item. Handcuffs can be used as Photography Props or for Cops, so they are not necessarily a Sex item either. Latex Clothing, is CLOTHING Period. Even Wrist Bands are Clothing items.

Chains are not Necessarily a Sex item either.

But I often wondered were the Customs people just acting Cool to me? Or is Whips and Chains Technically illegal?

I know that Photographers go through a lot of Scrutinty because they are afraid they are producing Porn. But I brought my Cameras in and out of Thai Customs a few times, and never had any Problems. The people who acted like real idiots was the US Customs, not the Thai Customs. I was always treated very well by Thai Customs Officers, and I respect them for their Professionalism. But the US Customs, MAN! If you are Comming to the US, Beware! The US Customs are Total D__ks! They Confiscated a Roll of Film I took while in Thailand cause they thought I was Producing Porn in Thailand. (But I wasn't it was just average out and about Vacation Pics).

But I think I would be Interesting if someone actually knew what the Law says in Thailand, could define it for everyone here, so we know.

WHAT IS Illegal, and What is Legal?

Especially the Vague Areas like Sex that they really don't clearly define in the Thai Websites.

Those who know or who have had experiences Good or Bad, should post to this Thread so we know.

Thanks,

Sua*

probably. it looks like this guy is into s&m and is wondering what sex toys he can bring into the country.

The rubber dong smuggler story is not so far fetched. There was a thai woman that was caught selling rubber dongs and was arrested. She had parties at peoples homes like tupperware parties. According to the article she was making quite a bit of money doing this. Smuggling the sex toys from taiwan i believe.

Thai laws are usually subjectively interpreted. In other words, if the person/people at the gate take a liking to you - you're going to get better treatment, than if they don't like the stubble on your face, or the way your shirt is buttoned, or the crease in your brow, etc. If you're able to deal with customs agents with a personable woman by your side - particularly a classy Thai woman - you're almost guaranteed good treatment. Same goes if you're with a respectable-looking Thai man. Impressions (by the bureaucrat/inspector) account for 90% of how the law is interpreted - if there is a law in the first place.

How often do they look on laptops or cameras? Had mine checked in Sydney, but he didn't care about what he saw but did comment on an animated icon...

Hope they don't find all the laptop smut I've secreted away inside my program files!

Just dress and groom as smart as you can, don't carry too much luggage, and you won't have problems.

Next time burn it to Cd. They ask & tell its music. I brought in my tech pack for servicing computers & had MUSIC written on my smut cds & all they cared about was looking at my Nascar race books. On the last trip back to the U.S. I had 15 Cds & an Ipod & told them they were music to boot my Ipod as I was getting it replaced in the U.S. Ipod .mp3 players will also store data only & can be renamed to music files . More holes than Swiss cheese. The custom boys got more things on their minds.(smut most likely) never actually ever seen anyone"s Cd's plugged into a computer" & there are ways to write the files that unless they are a programmer with 5 years of experience ,they wouldn't know what their looking at .Best be careful with that double header dongs though could be a dead giveaway !:o:D :D

Seriously though In Thailand they would probably just keep the Porn Cd's & tell you next time bring more as they then they most likely would mosey down to the nearest Cd duplicator & you get to see your stuff in the markets Pattaya & Bangkok Besides someone got to keep the corruption going!

its ludicrous to me that the 'live' sex industry is so huge here but a girl cant buy a new best friend to help out in times of need....... anyone selling sex toys here would make a killing.

i was recently in australia and they have these huge stores filled to the brim with toys. the sleaziness has been taken out of the industry and they even had mothers day specials on when i was there.

sorry, a tad off topic...

well my 21 year old niece took me to a place called 'sexyland' which has all sorts of toys and accessories. some of them were catering to special needs such as bondage, they also had standard vibrators as well as one that i saw which was about 60cm long! paint that thing black and you could use it as a police baton!

their staff were all very well trained and professional when explaining how things worked.

oh, how thailand should have shops like this!

Probably why they don't have in Thailand is most making love is only to procreate as Asian women(not in the U.S.) in Thailand have sex to have kids to either take care of them when their older or to snag a farang to take care of them. I managed to get a basic vibrator for my girl for when I take off for my usual 3 weeks to be with my friends & family so she won't get lonely & she never has even used it.

She thinks it disgusting. In the U.S. seems like every girl has an arsenal for when times are slow or they don't have time to deal with a man!

I am glad Thai customs like race books . it would have been most embarrasing to be caught with a vibrator!!!!! I think if you take a trip to Pattaya go to the Penthouse hotel . (I think it is soi 12/3 near walking street & unless it changed from 2005 you are able to purchase vibrators in the hotel rooms. The rooms are pretty killer to mirrors all over the ceiling & dancing poles...................

So has anyone ever been stopped and actually search when entering Thailand?

I can't remember the last time I actually saw a guard sitting on the Nothing to Declare counter, let alone actually searching someone!

Coming into Laos there is at least people there and you have to give you 'Nothing to Declare' slip to the guards who eye up you bag and either give you a nod or tell you to open'em up. Then again I've never been stopped here either!

Techno, When I came to Thailand in 2004 they searched 2 of 3 boxes, didn't care about my dagger collection Nudes or prescription pills including the extra's I doubled up on (instead of 60 it had 140) The 2 boder agents did spend 15 minutes reviewing my Nascar

programs & race books & race memorabilia though!

They search random , probably more if you have big boxes of stuff,I never got my backpack gone through when that all I have & last time I never had to go through the declarations of any sort. They just waved me through. This really confused me as I didn't have anything to declare , & didn't want to be stopped later for not complying.

But I doubt they really have a clue what they are looking for!

And if they have Randy the sniff dog-there to busy urinating on the baggage & sniffing womens crotches. :o

This is what a friend did. He mailed a vibrator to his Thai wife living in Bangkok by post. Did it arrive? I bet ya. They never even opened the package........ now you know :o

I was searched by Thai Custom in Phuket about a year ago, when I had 3 brand new vibrators my gf asked me to bring (for her friends). The custom officer saw them and obviously recognized what they were (double shaft models :o ) and didn't say a word. Same treatment for my 4 bottles of wine and off I went.
