Thailand presses ahead with three airport High Speed Rail project - promising no corruption at all

INN reported that Thailand was pressing ahead with plans to link three main airports as part of the Eastern Economic Corridor High Speed Rail project.

This came after criticism from a party list MP of the Move Forward Party about prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha's involvement in deals between Asia Erawan and CP.

Prayuth is chairman of the EEC board.

MP Phijan Chaopattanawong claimed there were irregular goings on after payment terms were extended claiming that this showed favors were being granted.

Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangbunkhongchana hit back on behalf of the PM saying that his best interests were for the country and that everything in the project was honest and above board.

He blamed the MP concerned for causing confusion and scapegoating. In parting commments he said that the MP discredited himself in an attempt to discredit others.

The High Speed Train - also known as the Airport Rail Link (ARL) according to INN - will link Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok with U-Tapao in Rayong (serving the Pattaya area) via Chachoengsao and Sriracha.

The EEC project is one of Thailand's largest and the jewel in its crown is the rail link.

  • Even without COVID he would have had to wear a mask to say that there will be "no corruption at all" in order to hide his lack of a straight face!

maybe he meant that there will only be normal type corruption, the kind that is just baked into doing things the thai way, not any excessive corruption, which of course, would be wrong.

They said in 2016 it was going on so it most be nearly finished by now.

All those in the know have already bought up all the land needed for the construction, par for the course in corrupt countries

Just promising no corruption guarantees that there will be plenty.

China‘s Belt and Road coming to Thailand.  What could possibly go wrong?

I wonder if it appears to be a conflict interest for the PM to be chairperson of the board?

The mere fact that it has to be announced " no corruption" is a sad indictment of all dealings in the Kingdom

Is there a register of the land owners required  for the land required for the projects, and can we guarantee that no infringements of integrity have taken place in the acquisition of the land needed?

Is the watchman involved?

Simple misprint should read "NO CORRUPTION FOUND"

China's state-owned HSR system in the last few years has resulted in an overall debt trap, in part due to lack of freight tariffs. Will Prayut pledge he'll be personally responsible for any financial losses for the EEC HSR lines as he created the system by his personal use of Article 44 that overruled economic analysis and anti-corruption laws?

Quis custodiet ipsos custodies?

Nor looked for.....

Something tells me that in a couple of years they will track down some "unusually wealthy" people that were involved with this whole project.

Will the average Thai use high speed trains for domestic travel?  I don’t think so….

Almost spit my coffee into my keyboard when I read that headline.

Or, maybe to find the corruption they will send that top notch investigation team that they sent to Pattaya to look for prostitution.
