Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday expressed Thailand’s willingness to fight climate change, aiming to reach carbon neutrality in 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065. He was addressing the World Leaders Summit of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

He said, with the adequate, timely and equitable support, through technology transfer and cooperation and, most importantly, the availability of and access to ample green financing facilities, Thailand can increase our Nationally determined contributions (NDC) to 40% and reach carbon neutrality in 2050.

The Prime Minister also underscored the utmost importance Thailand attaches to the problem of climate change and the country’s readiness to collaborate with all countries and sectors to reach the world’s common goal for future generations.

Easy to propose knowing they'll be dead by then and won't be blamed...

Give the man a nice big Glasgow kiss.

If every self-important politician and environmental terrorists stopped harping on about ozone layer depletion, global warming, climate changeextreme weather, and now the apparent existential threat of a climate emergency crisis, the severe lack of hot air and CO2 being released would probably result in an immediate ice-age.

You are going to get into trouble.

And nobody in the audience, believed a single word of it!

He can not think a day ahead.. Look at the Thailand Pass.... and 2065 is 50 years to go..... but as ususal the delays in improvement will continues going on.. nt yet, we are working on it, there has to come a new comitee, and so on and so on...... and in 2065 it will be still the same

Why vow something that you are not affected at all?

Why not vow to bring back prosperity in tourism? It can be verify within 2 years... 2065? Really?

2065??? Where did he dig this one up from? He and most of us will be dead and buried, or what ever, by then. And he accuses others of bringing the name of Thailand into disrepute? Bring on the clowns.????

Psst, someone explain to him why farmers generate carbon dioxide in their greenhouses.

Do you think anyone was listening?

Right. I'm sure that the politicians of 2065 will honour the agreement made 45 years previously by probably long-dead politicians.

The view from the back-seat of a chauffeur driven limo with air-con is somewhat different to the view most of us have.

the availability of and access to ample green financing facilities,

Clearly he has no intention of using Thai money to save the planet and is asking for a handout!   How about stopping buying military hardware and use the money saved to cut pollution and emission rates, stop making diesel cars etc, ensure sufficient power refilling points in petrol stations for electric cars throughout the country, stop building coal-fired power stations, and as a start ban crop-burning within one year.  All this is entirely doable, but as Thailand has not yet conquered the motorcycle safety helmet problem, it probably won't happen!

I Can already smell the upcoming Burning Season.. Clowns.

Yeah , depends on the money they want to get from the outside world ... Hopeless .

He could get halfway there tomorrow if kept his pie-hole shut.

Will this include getting rid of all the military "dead wood?" As useful as dead dinosaurs.

1) Prayuth is known for his excellent command of the English language
2) statements like that coming from a man who travelled on a midrange Airbus of the Air Force, which had to stop for refueling in Dubai and Cologne en route to Glasgow, is a total farçe.
3) the entire conference is for the Fritz' as hundreds of private jets are standing around as a show of how is who on the banana boat.
4) electric vehicles shuttle the delegates back and forward; as not enough charging stations are available, the vehicles get recharged with diesel-driven generators

Yawn........????

I am no doomsdayer but believe the world will probably implode by 2065.

Keep looking at my daughter 8 years old thinking the world will probably be a pretty sh*tty place by then

Truly hope i am wrong. Perhaos compassion will win out! Unlikely though.

April fools day is moved to November 1?  Still laughing at this article.

Means nothing until China India Pakistan come on board with controls.  They are the biggest pollutors and will be for a long time.

Dear General P.M.

Two immediate steps you could take .....get rid of those “VIP” convoys with all their escort vehicles, causing gridlock on the roads. Hundreds of vehicles going nowhere, but still emitting exhaust fumes because drivers need to keep their air-con going.

Stop the burning of fields, forests and household rubbish. You have thousands of troops doing nothing, use them to enforce laws that already exist banning burning but are ignored by local police and authorities.

You might even see an improvement before you finally get kicked out of office, not when you are long dead
