BANGKOK (NNT) - Not many foreign tourists are being spotted around landmarks in Bangkok such as Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho, where most of the visitors were domestic tourists.

 

Staff at a Covid screening point said a little more than a thousand tourists visited the Grand Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha yesterday (1 Nov), the first day of Thailand’s ‘reopening’ to foreign tourists. Of all the visitors, only about 100 or so were foreigners and the rest were Thais.

 

A tuktuk driver nearby said there were few foreign tourists, though he expected more would arrive in 1-2 months. He voiced his opinion that reopening Thailand to tourists was preferable to it remaining sealed off, as people would have jobs. The driver said he had to work as a painter during Covid lockdowns to earn income, and hoped that the reopening to tourists would make things return to normal.

 

The atmosphere was similar at nearby Wat Pho. A Pad Thai seller in the area said that before the pandemic, the place would be filled with crowds of Chinese tourists. She said it would probably take time for such a scene to return.

 

More than half of the stalls in front of Wat Pho were closed, with sellers generally waiting for tourist numbers to reach the threshold that would justify opening their shops.

Think this noodle lady is going to be in for a very very long wait - especially for the Chinese. With them already saying end of next year earliest  for the chinese, I would not be surprised that being extended to 2-3 years after a winter olympics covid boom

What he really says is: I actually had to do a real job during covid, so I hope to close Wat Po and do 1000 baht grand palace tours again and get drunk at night at the thonburi side KTV's and brothels.

And here all along I thought they were Thai symbols of their religion and didn't really care if foreigners came or not.  Silly me.

I think this Pad Thai seller have bigger brain then all the TAT and P Cha Cha together that think 

people will return in big number like Thailand is now , many better places to visit this days.

Don’t worry….. Soon loads of very rich tourists will drop by your stand for a quick Pad Thai take-away, before they fly off in their helicopters to make more investments around the country.

With the COE or Thailand pass forms being a good delay reason for travel, Thailand will be

lucky to get more than a few thousand people per month for as long as these 2 forms are needed.
