Thailand’s Prime Minister has ordered the cabinet to use the military farmland to grow coriander, often known as “Chinese Parsley”, as prices in some areas have jumped to 300-400 baht per kilogram due to the flooding.

 

Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chalermchai Sri-on said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed concern over the general price increases of agricultural goods, especially coriander.

 

Chalermchai explained that flooding has caused vegetable prices to increase in the short-term. He also added that vegetables, such as coriander and chilli, are commonly home grown in such areas.

By the time the millitary grade coriander comes online there will not be a shortage or high prices. Talk about a reactive PM. This fella is a Slow.

Now we are to have Coriander grown on the Army lands.

So, if now the Police could raise a Chicken or 2 in their Patrol Boxes, and the Navy were  to Farm Seaweed, we would have a full set.

Starting production from the scratch now would yield crops only in a few months than it would be over surplus, if they concentrate only on one crop. Hence dramatic price drop

The Prime minister orders the growing of coriander? Forget the destruction of the forests. How many chopping days till Christmas? We must get our priorities right mustn't we. This man is making himself more of a fool everyday. If that is possible.

And when the coriander is finished the price is down to a huge bunch for 5 baht again. Smart move PM!

Well they have over 4.5 million rai so i guess they could spare a bit for coriander.

I've learned not to be critical of prime ministers or presidents and the like making stupid decisions and illogical recommendations that have no materially detrimental affect on the public at large, or me specifically.

 

I conclude that was 30 minutes or maybe 3 days of their time devoted to stupidity that did not cause anybody any harm.  The unfortunate truth is that as soon as they issue their ridiculous proclamations, they are then free to think of new ways to victimize us and bow to the wishes of Aristotle's Mob.

 

It's called democracy.

What a great use of the military. Growing cheap vegetables !  They should be out patrolling the border and catching illegals and drug smugglers, helping people affected by the recent floods and maybe even learning to fight !!

Quite interesting ! PM of Thailand defers to sign up to an international proposal to eliminate deforestation, claims his Government is effectively addressing climate  change and  days later "orders"  Thai military resources  be directed to providing a food condiment due to off-seasonal demand  !

Like, they don't have enough to do in defending the nation? They need to be branching out into all kinds of non-defense and non-military related ventures in order to occupy their time and fill their pockets?

The army owns more than 30 golf courses nationwide. The army also owns boxing stadium, 100 petrol stations, racecourses, hotels, retail and coffee shops, and radio and television airwaves (by one count, the armed forces have ownership in 537 radio and TV stations).^[26] In early 2020, the army entered an agreement with the Finance Ministry to turn over to the ministry the management of businesses unrelated to the army's mission.^[27][28][29] In a related move, army commander General Apirat Kongsompong decreed that retired generals must move out of army-owned housing to free space for serving officers. Following up, on 22 February 2021 a meeting was called by the President of Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Channel 5 with energy firms interested in winning a piece of what is projected to be a 600 billion baht project. The Energy Ministry was not represented at the meeting. Critics have questioned why the army is involved in energy procurement, in contravention of existing regulations, and why Thailand needs more electricity when it already has 59% reserve capacity and more capacity under construction.^[33]

Stupid me I always thought they were herbs & spices. Where would i be without Prayuth's knowledge of agriculture, can you ask your buddy how can I grow flour ?
