Pattaya – Customers fled from a restaurant last night (November 4th) when the Pattaya City Police were inspecting restaurants in the city for alcohol.

At 9:00 P.M. the Pattaya City Police were continuing to make sure that business operators are still following a ban on alcohol sales at restaurants and the closure of bars and entertainment venues.

Currently, due to Covid-19, an ongoing closure order is in place for all bars and alcohol service related venues in Chonburi. Even the sales of alcohol at restaurants has been forbidden. Both rules, despite rising customer frustration and anger, have been in place for almost seven months.

When police arrived at a restaurant near the Bali Hai Pier in which police stated that this venue has allegedly broken the orders many times before, many customers, both Thais and foreigners, immediately fled from the restaurant.

Police did not find any alcohol on tables but glasses were covered around with tissue paper and there were signs of what appeared to be mixers at many tables.

More like making sure that they are stiffed out of what coming to them if you serve alcohol...

I know of a few Pattaya cockroaches in their late 50s bailing out after living there 20+ years

Getting to the point now where it becomes a bit tiresome with their inept repetitiveness.

Its no way to live amongst these wallies.

Although i have pictures of friends in other bars in pattaya from few days ago and there were plenty of bottles of Leo on the table, yet you read rubbish like the above topic.

Corrupt and bizarre.

Kudos to the costomers for fleeing. Defy the dumb cops here as much as possible. I give them attitude every encounter I have with them. They richly deserve the pushback.

Respect and obedience should be earned, and NEVER freely given!

It can be argued that if you give them money, they give you their respect and obedience.  ????

True that, to some extent. No way to know how many cops in the US are truly racist, and pick on people of color for fun and sport. I have seen alot of it first hand with my black and Latino friends, so there is alot of racism, no doubt.

I know it is an uncomfortable thing for alot of white men to hear and discuss. Likely some shallow and reactionary guys will even call me woke for even mentioning it, which I am anything but. It is simply a bit of intellectually lazy jargon, at this stage.

The big difference is in America you have alot of sincere cops, who actually engage in law enforcement. Very little of that seems to happen in Thailand. I do agree the Thai franchisees are "gentle" and easier to deal with. Anything but gentle in the US, for the most part. Far more militant.

I give Thai cops a very hard time, which they richly deserve. I do NOT engage in pushback in the US.

Perhaps. But, they certainly do not get any of mine, with their $15 street hooker behavior and tradecraft.

Thugs? 'merca? We hire?

Do you have any personal experience in the hiring process to become a police officer? If so, which US state? Do you have any clue as to how many police contacts result in a physical confrontation or use of force?

Have you been to a police academy and  what is taught as to what is a legal or illegal use of force, and the consequences for using such for without justification?

There are plenty of thugs in this world, some wear uniforms, some don't. Some hide behind the anonymity of a keyboard.

This looks like the restaurant at the  beginning of walking street.  It is getting ridiculous.

I think that they need to open the bars to booze but limit the number of people at each bar.

CONTROL

Nothing to do with Covid unfortunately, and for these clowns to think it can spread through customers drinking, even excessively, they are all idiots, what about shopping centre's, gym's and big crowd events that the government allows ?

About time they let go of all the BS, but then again, for some power is hard to let go of.

Time to focus on criminals, rapists, murderers, drug dealers, oooops, solly, forgot where I was again.

Begs the question why isn't there a padlock on the door...

Or is it just an opportunity for more fines?

Like most laws in Thailand it must be frustrating to the police personnel to enforce laws that they break themselves everyday!  takes away from their own drinking and partying time?????

A harsh reality for those that want a return of prosperity to the 'tourist business'. These kinds of report will end up warning potential tourists away.

Yes, it is ridiculous to enforce the absurd ban BUT what are the police to do if ordered to raid the bar?

I want to know if any customers fled into the sea like last time.

Insanity. Just allow restaurants to serve alcohol already.

In Thailand it is always about control of the peasants, as it was in my native UK about 400 years ago where the rich few ruled over the poor. A government's job is to act in the best interests of the people, to protect the nation. It is not to interfere constantly in the private life of its citizens. But the control begins right from the time kids begin school, where every boy and every girl has to have exactly the same haircut. What is that supposed to achieve? Absolutely nothing. It's just control, teaching obedience, so they will become subservient little lambs in adult life too.

Agree, not to mention the 4 school uniforms, and the 45 minutes assembly with band playing, national anthem sounding like it's setting them up for military style training.

Fortunately for our girls, their school has a no haircut policy, but a braiding policy, I tell you the amount of time it takes my Mrs to do their hair in the morning is a stressful event in itself, as for the boys in college, is an up to you event, total opposite to most schools and one uniform which is the way it should be.

So much negative chat on Thailand’s new era of a great holiday destination . . somehow I think this alcohol ban with all the red tape to actually get into the country will only put tourists off completely.
it sounds like if a tourist gets caught with a beer for heavens sake he’ll end up in jail on their holiday ????

I think most tourists watching what’s happening on the ground are definitely being put off going there. They need to sort it out before any tourist recovery is destroyed completely.

Most tourists can actually have a drink at a restaurant or a bar in their own country yet can’t if they go on holiday to Thailand. . why go there . .
