National – A reward of as high as 20,000 baht will be offered to those who recorded photos and/or videos of illegal motorcyclists and reported them to the Royal Thai Police, according to the Deputy National Police Chief.

Police General Damrongsak Kittipraphat, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, revealed today, November 10th, that the police will tighten their law enforcement against motorcyclists who are found to violate the traffic laws, starting next Monday, November 15th.

The official also encouraged the public to report violators by sending clips recording illegal acts to the police. Those who reported could also have a chance to win a prize of up to 20,000 baht every month.

  • Here's an idea, put up some CCTVs, instead of asking people to grass up others.

  • What about car drivers? Can they continue to break the laws when ever they choose?

Real life: Nasty kicking for anybody seen photographing offenders license plates.

Note: The actual win motorcycle drivers are generally very decent guys.

Pretty much, especially if you have a Merc with a badge on the front.

Who said they weren't?

Ha, was walking along sukhumvit the other evening, the road was not too busy but noticed that a lot more motorcycles were using the sidewalk and had to dodge several of them.

The delivery guys seem to to be doing it the most.

This could be a good money earner.

It's the small wheel on your mouse.  Or a typo.

"20k THB reward for people who report law breaking motorcyclists"

That's not true, it's a very misleading title.

What the article actually reported is...

"...Those who reported could also have a chance to win a prize of up to 20,000 baht every month.  Prizes will be offered to clip owners to win up to 20,000 baht. About 10 prizes will be given away every month, totaling 50,000 baht,”

That's a money maker in the right spot.  I think it was 1k per plate, so guess they added a lottery of 20k as incentive.

If I was Thai ... that would be a great supplement income, or base income.

You may need the money for medical bills!

Does this mean anyone riding thier bikes on the sidewalk  on the. Beach, or any sidewalk  for that matter can be fined if recorded  and reported? What about ones who ride their bikes the wrong way on the roads, you know against  traffiic or wrong directions  on one way street?  One could make a fortune in one day alone just on the beach, beach road, 2nd road.  One could literally  sit in one spot and record  more than 10 violating individuals  a day in these locations, and earn 100,000 thb a day.  There is no way this reporting  system will work the way its designed.   One could earn 1 million in just ten days sitting and recording in these locations.

Is that physically possible?

Imagine 10 violations reported a day.  One could earn 100k a day.  This has to be false.

OK. I report everyone in our village. No licence, no up to date registration, no numberplate, no mirrors, no insurance, no lights, no helmets.

That should come to a tidy sum. Please make the cheque out to Johnny No-mates but please hurry while I'm still alive.

Heres a novel idea, get off your lazy ass and get out there and enforce the law, you know, the job you are actually paid to do !

Not sit there waiting for someone to point you in the right direction !

Just saying....????

What is the fine (if there is one) for riding without a licence number plate? Could start to see more bikes without plates.

Yep.

50,000 prizes of

1 baht.

Does that include crash helmets ?, wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy all the police spectacles so they could see for themselves.

It’s not 20,000 per report. If you send in a photo you go into a draw to win 20,000. It’s in the main article.

So many flaws with this article. Who actually thinks the RTP would make a payout, when they only impose a fine "not exceeding 5000 baht"? That's a lot of tea money gone.

Further, if they never made a payout, who would know? One way to demonstrate the integrity of the proposal would be to post proud photos of the monthly prizewinners, and we can all surmise some of the negative outcomes of that scenario.

Additionally they'll never get 5000 baht from Thai locals, the delivery drivers et al are geting peanuts as it is. So, although it is not stated, this would be essentially perpetuate the Thai v Foreigner paradigm (can't envisage too many foreigners camping the roadside videoing offenders, more likely the starving citizens with no social security). Great for tourism ...'Catch the tourist that just rented a motorbike for the first time ever and has no idea of local rules, seeing hundreds of Thais using the sidewalk, following suit, and then being hit with a fine' routine.

As stated earlier, invest in CCTV at locations where this commonly occurs and just let the fines pay off the investment. Also, remove "Scrolls Wheels" from the signs (Any wheeled vehicle?? = kiddy trikes/bikes? Segways? motrcycle trikes? Quad-bike ATVs?), totally lost in translation.... especially since only motorbikes and cars are pictured.

Damn click-baiting

I thought all thoughts about financials are over now.

Rich in 10 days. But no.

My oracle says it's handcarts or the food cart jobbies.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Why don't the fat brown gits get off their lard ar$3s and do some real policing and enforcement work, for once.

Cool!  I knew it sounded to good to be true.  So, really no real incentive to help the police or oneself?  Are there any cash available for ones who do report?

If the money is there, they will -  for example the Tessabaan guys working for the cops collecting money from smokers throwing away their butt ends.
