chrisspursbkk1
wifi mireless is'nt showing it, but if you go to www.metacafe.com and serach Thailand your see some great stuff which is'nt decrading any head of states, but there is an artical on the reasons of the ban. If anyone can tell me how to acsse youtube please tell. The best of regards. Chris. Chris, FYI Metacafe is ICT [Green Screen of Death] blocked. Reason I believe is that there is/was, a video purporting to show child sex for sale in Thailand, though it looks like it was filmed in Cambodia or Vietnam. Soundtrack quality makes it difficult to identify language being spoken behind voice over. Regards I saw the same video and agree with what you said then i saw them driving on the same side of the road as Thailand so i guess it must of been here? i think it may have been filmed in issan/Cambodia. spot
No youtube here on True....No evil eye either, just says cannot connect to mict server. Maybe they are busy really with their day jobs and haven't got round to unblocking it.

Jimjim
So maybe it isn't back but I saw an article a few weeks ago that said it will be back. That's the government's word, anyway. They said it will be back but I don't remember them giving a date.

jayceenik
why is everyone so addicted to youtube when there are other sites like Clipser that offer the same thing? there are loads of other sites out there. It's not an addiction. YouTube is a tool because it carries a lot of information not available elsewhere. For example, the European Union has set up a series of clips informing generally on the EU (youtube/eutube) and CNN will use it to broadcast US election debates (CNN/youtube). Going through my daily intake of world info on the Internet I keep being referred to youtube clips that are maddeningly blocked here though they have nothing to do with Thailand or pornography or illicit activities whatsoever. Certainly there are lots of other sites where one can find amusing, sometimes informative, clips, but those sites don't offer the same range as YouTube. andy1308
Had it this morning (TOT is central Bangkok) but now it's just timing out. If it really has been blocked again (as per the Royal Thai Police message one person claims to have got earlier) I thought the ICT Minister was quoted last week as saying it had to be done via a court order? spot
I was just reading the guardian website (UK). On the football section it has a weekly Youtube round up of classic football clips. I can't watch them - just innocent football clips! My non Thailand living friends are amazed at this. I can see dead bodies and bikini clad models all over the front pages of the Thai daily papers, but I'm not allowed to watch Barnes, Rush and Dalglish kick a ball around... I get this problem with kitesurfing sites all the time now. people link the youtube file into their site instead of hosting it themselves, means I can't watch. It has been months now, I would have thought that they would have come to some sort of arrangement other than a permanent block.
LivinLOS
Same with surfing (waves) sites.. Same with gaming sites.. All kinds of other sites now fail to work for me due to you tube blocks. Youtube is almost the defacto video share system for small sites conserving bandwidth.. Its almost like banning a codec more than banning one site. FormasianPaul
I would have thought.... You see, thats where the problem starts.... thinking they would do anything is why we are all dissappointed... Doudou
YouTube was back... last week. Since Monday, I can't get it. I tried with: True Internet in Bangkok, TOT Gold in Chantaburi, and CAT Leased line in Chantaburi. In all cases, I did a traceroute, and the last IP address is one managed by CAT. So the block comes from them. Why can't they let this be? It is getting really old to be treated like children. Looking forward to real elections... robsamui
Yes - afraid so. The powers that be announced back in April that they were lifting the ban and were satisfied with Google's response. It took them 3 months to get around to it, un-banned it and then banned it again, all in a week, without telling anyone. Amazing Thailand. JetsetBkk
OOOOOps!5 hours after the last post it's back again! Maybe someone at the CAT pushed the wrong button! Rob Took a few clicks to get it to load, but now it's working fast. Perhaps we should keep quiet about it - maybe the guy at CAT will take his coffee mug off the "ban youtube" button.
