Police call for families of captive Thai workers to file complaints

Police have appealed to alleged victims or their families to file complaints amid reports that 300 Thai migrant workers are being detained by a Chinese online casino owner in Preah Sihanouk province. This is to enable them to conduct investigations into the matter.

 

Provincial police chief Major General Chuon Narin told Khmer Times yesterday that any Thai migrant worker who claims to be cheated by the Chinese online casino owner needs to file a complaint to the police or the family may do so if they believe the workers are being held against their will.

 

Meanwhile, a Thai Embassy official told Khmer Times yesterday that last week 99 Thai migrants hired to work for an online casino complained that they had been cheated by a Thai broker into working there. They were rescued and sent back to Thailand. “We have been getting many cases like these recently, usually from Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Poipet,” he said.
