get gambling money from foreign tourists.......

It all sounds just tacky and greedy......

A previous report says that they will be only for foreigners, but didn't say that that will be in order to allow the illegal underground casinos run by shadowy figures to remain for the Thais.

...and if you think that any of the countries on the list are the targets then you are even more "foolishly wrong".

They all have their own Casino's. They rarely travel to gamble.

A Thai Casino is squarely aimed at the Asian market, and everything will be geared to them...and they won't be able to keep the Thai's out...

If they let one of the great Casino Operators run it, it will be world class and put Thailand on the gamblers map...but they won't. They just have to look at Singapore...but they won't...

I agree it can be world class but getting any of the great casino operators to invest and manage will depend on whether locals can enter.

If it's only for foreigners then they won't be interested.

A few years ago Las Vegas Sands (LVS) put forward a proposal to open a casino in Ho Chi Minh with the condition that locals were allowed to enter and play. The Vietnames government said no and LVS walked away. This is definitely on the Thai governments agenda but at moment I think they're just probing the local reaction to all the news reports to see if it's favourable to move forward.

You are right.

I gamble a lot in Vietnam, and while it is technically illegal for Vietnamese to gamble or even enter a Casino, any local with a foreign passport can enter...and there must be a roaring trade on second passports, as there are a lot of Vietnamese gamblers.

The wealthy Thai's already have second passports and they will find the loophole...

So they are thinking of to exchange sex purchases for kasino. Have they not missed a thing? Sex purchases almost always provide value for money. Kasinos rarely do that. The interest from others than Thais, who are game crazy, would be minimal. Few Westerners will be interested in making a long flight and an expensive and problematic visa application to loose their money as they easily can do that at home. Think again and think right.

There is a casino on Phu Quoc island, Corona resort & Casino that allows local Vietnamese to play. It was opened in 2019 under a 3 trial. There are conditions for locals to enter they must have a monthly income of 10m VND and pay an entrance fee of 1m VND which is valid for 24hrs. Similar model to Singapore.

But you are right about the foreigner only Casino's there are a lot of Vietnames with foreign passports.

Wasn't it just a week ago, the story here was NO but Hell No!  or something to that affect not in the foreseeable future?  Then a few days after MP former gambler put his supports give a bunch of lame ass excuse as to why!  Today it is on the table again setting up a cabinet commission consisting of 15 member but the suggested numbers don't add up?

We all know gambling has deep pockets that was fast in getting all those brown envelope stuffed or did they shake hands with the one hand and grab the brief case with the other?

Watch these members bank accounts especially the three pictured closely especially the former gambler!????

Aussies love to gamble and also love to travel just like the Singaporeans, Indonesian and Malaysians. It will be a casino tourism holiday.

Most Aussies will not come here for serious-gambling casino tourism holidays if the Thai casinos allow cigarette smoking in the gaming areas - like they allow in Cambodia and Laos casinos.

"Parliament agrees to set up "Casino Commission" - idea to get gambling money from foreign tourists gains momentum"

Its done deal then.

This government always puts out statements like this to soften the blow when its finally approved.

personally I think its a great idea.

What they really need are proper sportbooks to differential them from the seedy casino's in the neighboring countries.

Always?

Everything?

Now that is just not true and you know it...

And what exactly am I complaining about?

I simply commented on what was said in the article.

Yes, Mr Bluespunk, I will not step on your fragile little toes. You are always right, or at least you keep on like you are.. Keep up the good work!

Put evening dress compulsory, that should eliminate lots of people, mostly Thais. Where I live there’s dress code for nightclubs, casinos , and even discotheques. Also for most good restaurants. Good hôtels also, especially for the evening dining.

Collapsed fisheries, dead coral, filthy trash covered beaches...A casino is Phuket's only hope.

I have been saying this to anyone that would listen for more than a decade.  The first legal casino in Thailand will be located in the existing hotel nestled against the mountain on the south western corner of Nai Harn beach.

This most certainly is NOT the reason for the Casino.

How could it be? Most of us who're offshore are thinking, "90 days, huh? This is probably the last anyone is going to hear about this scheme. Guess I'll postpone my flight tickets to LOS for yet another year."

Meanwhile, those Thais on the committee are planning their "fact finding" trip to Las Vegas.

Money, money, money . To fleece foreigners.. so Thai. Ignoring the illegal, cheating, Thai gambling dens all over Thailand that are a social evil along with the loan sharks they foster. Again because here tea money ensures law enforcement turns a blind eye...so Thai. So sad.

It has nothing to do with getting tourists in, it's all about dirty money in Thailand.

Just look at Cambodia, locals cannot gamble yet  look at Sihanoukville, taken over by China and undesirable money men.

And the argument that it brings in revenue for locals is a false argument, residents were driven out by property prices and couldn't afford to even live in their own province anymore.

Chinese moved in en-masse, Chinese buying only from Chinese retails, the locals were frozen out then bought out.

Reap what you sow Thailand, think before you leap.

I agree, Thailand consistently  tries to get Chinese money, but China consistently outsmarts Thailand in the deals. And with all the bonuses, kickbacks and corruption involved, it'll be another Thai Airways fiasco. It'll be Chinese built, managed and promoted. I just hope they build it and an airport far from anywhere so we won't have to deal with all the Chinese groups.
