BANGKOK (NNT) - The government of Thailand has reiterated its commitment towards the digital transformation of Thailand, hoping to position the country as Southeast Asia’s digital hub.

Thailand’s top government officials have outlined their vision for the country’s digital transformation, with policies to promote the deployment of high-speed mobile internet networks.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 5G Thailand Big Move seminar, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said digital technologies are now serving as key drivers to address new challenges, with Thailand being the first country in the ASEAN region to adopt the 5G technology for country transformation, starting with some key industries.

He said the government will keep pushing Thailand to become a regional hub for digital technology, along with the implementation of the 5G network in ways that can attain equity and sustainable growth.

On this occasion, Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn presented the government’s policy for digital technology development, which places the 5G technology as the main telecommunications technology that can streamline modern industries.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society now anticipates that Thailand’s 5G network will have some 70 million users by 2027, while the technology itself will help generate no less than 650 billion baht over the next 10 years. With this projection, the government has pledged to continue providing investment promotions in technology related fields. The ultimate goal is to make Thailand Southeast Asia’s digital center.

They definitely need to pursue digital transformation as they have a lot of catching-up to do based on how their various new websites/apps typically bomb when initially released like the Thailand Pass website, the hot-off-the-press new 90 Days Address Reporting website (didn't even make it thru the first day of operation before going down), multiple COVID apps full of bugs/downtime, etc.

Yeap, Thailand definitely needs to pursue digital transformation.

Does this mean that the use of English will be upgraded and that people who actually know how to code will be hired (ie the detested foreigners), so that government websites actually function as they are supposed to??????
