Has anybody experience of Visa extensions over Christmas and New Year period?

My Visa needs extending before January 15 and I usually leave it until two or three days before.

My bank balance has been above the required amount since October 29 so theoretically I could go on December 29.

My wife is saying they’ll be very busy as they are closed from 31 onwards.

Is it better to wait until after the New Year holiday?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Immigration will be closed the 31st, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

You can do it after the 3rd without  a problem. You would still have plenty of time it you needed to acquire some additional document. You could even apply on the 17th since the 15th is on a weekend without being fined for a overstay on the 17th.

Thanks Joe I didn't know that. (About the overstay)

I was also trying to find out if they might be extra busy before or after a long holiday or possibly quiet.

I'm also due at the same time as OP, I've never done an extension before and already getting anxious about it given the problems I ran into the first time around.

Is getting a marriage extension (actually mine is based on Thai child, but I assume they are much the same thing) really so simple it could be done a few days in advance of expiry? I'm planning on going next week (well in advance by the looks of it).

I've basically just reprinted and updated everything I did for the first 1 year visa, I hope this suffices.

I always make a detailed report after I've done Visa extension for reference the following year since it is easy to forget small details.
However, in my experience they change the rules (make up new ones) year by year.
I always used to think it was worth going well in advance in case of any problems. However, one year they decided there was a problem with my rental agreement. When I protested, they said, well you still have 10 days before your visa expires, so go and sort it out.
The last couple of years I have found them to be somewhat more amenable. Possibly to do with there being fewer foreigners in the country.
