COVID-19: Thailand reports 2,532 new coronavirus cases, 31 deaths, 3,191 recoveries

Thailand on Wednesday (December 22) reported 2,532 new COVID-19 cases, 3,191 recoveries and 31 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 2,484. Prisons: 48

▶︎ Recoveries: 3,191

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,170,198

▶︎ Total recoveries since April 1: 2,111,962

 

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,199,061 with 21,471 deaths.

 

The news comes as Thailand has scrapped its ‘Thailand Pass’ and ‘Test & Go’ schemes due to fears over the Omicron variant of COVID-19. 

 

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O-Cha has ordered the immediate suspension of new registrations for Thailand Pass and at the same reinstated mandatory quarantine effective immediately.

 

The PM announced on Tuesday afternoon that Test & Go will be put on hold until at least January 4, 2022.

There's that midweek upwards bump of cases. However those prison cases have never truly made the case list, I wonder what the play there is?

 

I also do not see a list breakdown of Omicron cases, which in many countries has already overtaken the Delta cases.

UPDATE: 2,532 confirmed cases, 788 probable cases (ATK), and 31 deaths (0.98%). Out of 38,202 patients , 18,903 are in hospital, 17,428 in hospitel and 948 in home/community isolation. There are 845 in a serious condition (-35) with 231 on ventilators (-6) #Thailand

It is nice to see the Critical care cases and those on ventilators declining.  The deaths are also slowly dropping.  Wonder what the excess death rate is so far this year.

I also noticed deaths seem to be pretty constant over the last 2 weeks, somewhat different curve to infections. Would expect deaths to follow infection curve albeit with a couple weeks lag.

Just over 100 Omicron cases detected in Thailand to date, more tests underway

 

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) confirmed today (Wednesday) that Thailand has detected a total of 104 Omicron cases to date, while 34 more COVID-19 infections among Test & Go arrivals have been found.

Most Thais worried about Omicron during festive period, safety tips offered for celebrations

 

The Department of Health today (Wednesday) disclosed the result of an opinion survey, conducted by the department between December 1st and 20th, which shows 80% of the respondents are worried about coronavirus during the festive period, including 70% who are particularly concerned about the Omicron variant, which may spread as more people gather in groups for social gatherings and activities.

 

The research identified five types of location which may make people vulnerable to the spread of COVID-19 infections. They include entertainment venues, such as bars and pubs, 64.2%, tourist spots, 60.3%, markets, 48.4%, malls, 45% and public transports, 44%.

Oh dear! Obviously hoping for too much after the 27 cases yesterday. 

 

Health officials on Tuesday (Dec 21) reported 56 new COVID-19 cases, 25 of which were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 6 cases were found in Pranburi, 8 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 1 case in Kuiburi, 1 case in Thap Sakae, 7 cases in Bang Saphan, zero cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 8 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

One new death was reported today – a 53 year old who had an underlying health condition.

They forgot one , big family get together or multiple persons meeting up in condos.

Khon Kaen province reports its first two Omicron cases

 

He told a press conference that the two cases are a married couple who live in another north-eastern province, Kalasin, who returned from a visit to Belgium on December 10th and entered minimal state quarantine, testing negative upon arrival.

 

After the brief quarantine, the couple returned to their hometown in Kalasin on a Thai Smile flight and were driven home from the airport in a relative’s car. On December 13th, both travelled to Khon Kaen to renew their passports at the provincial hall and returned to Kalasin by Khon Kaen-Mukdahan bus between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

 

The governor also said that three days later the couple developed a fever and muscle pains and they were admitted to Kalasin hospital, where they tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Interesting to know how many positives they are sequencing and is it just overseas arrivals or they checking homegrown positives too?

6 days from arriving in country until positive test, timelines seem to be getting longer, Chang Rai man was six or seven days, possible infection from Thailand?
