Yesterday as normal for a special day Beach Road was shut at 4 PM. Coming back from golf we came down a very slow Pattaya Nua only to be confronted by Beach Road being shut (our driver either didn't know or had forgotten). So back up Pattaya Nua (along with hundreds of others) to 3rd Road. It would make sense that if they are going to shut one of the main (in town) North to South routes they would erect some signs on Pattaya Nua to inform people earlier. Making 2nd Road 2 way again would help.  

 

Shutting Beach Road for whatever reason creates massive Traffic Jams in the rest of Pattaya between Beach and 3rd. It's easy to get to the beach from Jomtien (2nd Road and then walk) but going back is a nightmare. Walk back to second road and then what. All the traffic is heading North. So walk up to Soi Bakhua but although being 2 way the traffic comes to a grinding halt as the narrow Soi was never designed to handle that much traffic.

 

I don't have the solution but either keeping one lane open for Baht Buses might help or of course a 2way 2nd Road.

Motorbike taxis come into their own; they know all the short cuts and back routes. Dearer than Baht busses but they do door to door. Agree a price before setting off.

Buakhao is a PITA currently even on a motorbike, best avoided

Have a look at the prices of motorbike taxis at Bolt. You will be surprised

Sweet Jesus, for months now the Asean Now crybabies and doom & gloom types have be trying their best to spin Pattaya is dead and a ghost town and will never recover are now crying there's too much traffic.  You can't make this stuff up.

Yes, my hate of songtaews comes to the fore on a busy soi Buakhao.

Get rid of the sidewalk sellers and give the sidewalks back to the people, a case in point is the fruit market cnr soi 19 and bukhaow he takes up the whole sidewalk and then people have to walk on the road around the many bikes that are parked in front of the shop thus creating more problems..

Gutless council to scared to move him either that or the brown envelope is too big

Just a heads up on anyone thinking of travelling north up Thappraya Road from Jomtien, bumper to bumper slow traffic, and the same all the way up Pratamnack Hill.
