Popular Post webfact Posted December 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2021 It's that time of the year again when the Thai authorities focus on the dangers on the nation's roads. Every new year and Songkran holiday is the same - there are seven dangerous days. This time the danger is from December 30th through January 5th 2022 reported Daily News. Director of the the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Buntham Lertsukheekasem said a coordination center would disseminate information each day via Facebook. Daily information on traffic accidents would come out at 10.15 am live from a fifth floor meeting room at DDPM HQ. Popular Post mikebell Posted December 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2021 I've heard this twice a year for 16 years. Very little diminution in the numbers; very little police action as they rack up the overtime and compensation for having to leave their A/C offices. EVERY day is dangerous in Thailand and will remain so until they get a police force. 12 5

Maybe they could get Alan Partridge to do a Crash Bang Wallop Thai edition ! 1 5
Popular Post Gottfrid Posted December 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2021 Only 7 dangerous days??? I was under the belief they are dangerous in traffic 24/7/365. 7 2 1
Popular Post edwinchester Posted December 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2021 Tents already gone up beside the road in our area...feel so much safer. 1 8
Popular Post Purdey Posted December 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2021 It needs political will. It isn't the police that causes crashes. 2 1

Each year before NYE and Songkran we have the same announcements - 7 deadly days Each year in late Dec we have a crackdown on polluting vehicles (ignoring the field burning) Each year in a handful of provinces around Thailand there is a crackdown on helmets New to the addition this year is the crack down on prostitution and pedophilia. Will we also see a crackdown on vehicle maintenance (to avoid brake failure) ? 1 1
Popular Post hotchilli Posted December 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2021 Command centre... Lol. 1 4

As usual, being reactive reporting the daily deaths rather than being pro-active in trying to prevent them!!
rudi49jr Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 There are 365 dangerous days on Thai roads every year, judging by the daily death toll. The holidays (like New Year’s, Songkran) are just a bit more dangerous than usual. If only there was something that could be done about the dangerous traffic…… 1
natway09 Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Until the police have a budget to get 400 mufti cars actually on the roads & the will to enforce the law whilst driving them, the tents are just so they can see the screen on their mobiles. 1
Felt 35 Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 An Authority that that year after year promotes a deadly counting festival and recommendations to locals to travel and celebrate the New Year weekend while hundreds of their countrymen die in traffic and on top of it all fornow, Covid -19 that takes almost as many lives daily. Where is the consideration, understanding, respect and restraint in their culture! Felt

Well, it's the general Thai population's education and attitudes to driving/human life that is the cause. So a lot more that just politics needs to be addressed. I'm not sure if it's even something you could fix without starting from scratch, or if it's even something they'd be willing to address. 1 1
TropicalGuy Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Fatalistic Culture ……Doesn’t Change…….Ban All Mopeds below 150cc.
it is what it is Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 is there any hard evidence that any seven day period is overwhelmingly more dangerous than the norm? surely what's needed is preventative action 365 days a year.
tgw Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 they should open a command center for the "365 dangerous days"

Andycoops Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 A command center that will do absolutely nothing but provide overtime for the occupants. TiT.
jacko45k Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 My Mrs did a drive from Korat to Chonburi yesterday (NYE) and said traffic was light and she made good time. Any other reports?
