Listen don't crapolla, you post the economist speaking about low income, then blame expensive houses, the cost of houses isn't at fault it's the folk wages are too low..

Australia started going pear shape when they privatised everything. I came from the western suburbs of Melbourne where there was all sorts of major industry. They've all gone now putting many thousands out of work. Many major industries were sold to overseas interests who don't pay tax in Australia. A classic example was the Liberals sold the Port Of Darwin to China even though the Liberals despise the Chinese but it is ok by them to use China as Australias major trading partner. Of course a senior Liberal official is now a senior figure in the Chinese running of the Port Of Darwin plus he's probably getting a retirement pension from his time in politics. When I was a kid we didn't have much after WW2 but everyone was happy, how things have changed and not for the better.

Negative gearing and the CGT discount turned what would be homes for the average Australian into an investment vehicle that got out of control.

Privatization is also a Catch 22 or dog chasing its tail.

The government/s are broke, so they sell off assets, p*ss the money way, so sell off more assets, p*ss the money away, so find something else to sell.

Then, as you say, the board / CEO / shareholders maximize profits by either going offshore, or rising prices in Australia.

Classic example, electricity. Australia went from some of the cheapest electricity in the world 20 years ago, to now one of the most expensive for electricity in the world.

Just when you think there's nothing left to sell, they come up with the idea of selling off defense assets. How desperate / broke must a country be to consider selling off military bases?
