How To Meet Thai People Online

Not sure how to best phrase this but here goes.

I enjoy travelling in Southeast Asia-usually as a solo traveller. As I look back on my past travels it is more and more obvious to me that the best times I have had didnt come from visiting temples or tourist attractions etc but from the people that I have met (whether it be locals, tourists or ex-pats) e.g. meeting a Thai salesman from Bangkok who was visiting his parents in Phitsanulok (sp?) and drinking a number of Mekongs with him and his friends (and solving the world's problems) after being invited back to his house- still brings a smile to my face.

In general meeting ex-pats and tourists isn't a problem. However I'd like to make some Thai (or for that matter other Southeast Asian) penpals to get to know and possibly meet one day. I've looked at a few sites but most of those that I have come across are forums for people to meet and form relationships etc. Some subscribers say that they just want to 'make friends' but I have responded to a few of these persons and they have talked (bluntly) about wanting to start a family/physical relationship etc (this included a response from another male).

I'm not looking for a physical relationship, sex or anything other than lasting friendships so that I can look forward to meeting people (whether it be here, there or somewhere else). Age/gender isnt an issue (though I want to meet adults).

Things are slightly exacerbated because I enjoy getting out of Bangkok and travelling around some of the porer parts of Thailand where I have been a) targeted as marriage material or :o been looked at as if I am a dodgy Farang!

I hope I'm not coming across as too judgemental or a total prat! I'd really appreciate some advice. As i get older (late 30s now) it just seems harder

Cheers

All good advice. I'd have to say re. in country, that Thais are some of the easiest people to meet on the planet- you'd have to be a cold-hearted misanthrope to somehow manage to avoid it. I'm shamed that I am too busy to socialise half the time that someone offers me a friendly drink or meal. I haven't tried to go online- no real need, as I'm here- but I'd guess it would be similar.
